RICHARDSON, Texas \u2014 Richardson police are investigating after a woman reported being sexually assaulted near the DART Spring Valley Station over the weekend.<\/p>\n
According to police, the victim exited a DART train between 10 and 11 p.m. Saturday and was walking north along the trail that runs adjacent to the 500 block of North Greenville Avenue when a man attacked her.<\/p>\n
The victim told officers her phone and credit card were taken during the assault. She described the suspect as a tall, heavyset Black man in his early 30s \u2014 about 250 pounds \u2014 with neck-length dreadlocks that had bleached ends. He was last seen wearing a black or gray T-shirt and long pants that were not denim.<\/p>\n
Richardson police said the woman reported the incident the following day, and that detectives are still in the early stages of their investigation. Anyone with information is urged to call 972-744-4955.<\/p>\n
\nRiders react amid increased DART patrols <\/p>\n
At the Spring Valley DART Station in Richardson, trains ran as usual Monday \u2014 but some riders said they\u2019re now more cautious.<\/p>\n
\u201cI still ride, but at the same time I\u2019m very cautious\u2026especially at night,\u201d said James West, a regular passenger.<\/p>\n
Anthony Gray, another commuter, said he rarely sees security on the platform.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt first glance, I would think it\u2019s safer, but there\u2019s no employee around here\u2026 I mean, I see an officer, but not that often,\u201d Gray said.<\/p>\n
Richardson police told WFAA they\u2019re working with DART to review security footage from the train the woman said she rode before the assault.<\/p>\n
DART has already increased police presence across the system after two recent deadly train shootings \u2014 one near Market Center Station and another near Pearl Station in downtown Dallas.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s when they want to take action \u2014 it\u2019s already out of control,\u201d West said.<\/p>\n
Gray, who commutes nearly two hours each day, told WFAA he doesn\u2019t have other options. \u201cI have no other choice\u2026 I just try to get home before it gets too dark,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
West added that after 9 p.m., \u201cyou better have some sort of safety net to reassure your security\u2026 after then you\u2019re on your own.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nSafety and expansion <\/p>\n
While the weekend assault didn\u2019t happen on a DART train, it happened nearby \u2014 as the agency continues working to reassure passengers.<\/p>\n
DART is preparing to launch its new Silver Line rail expansion, a 26-mile corridor that will connect DFW Airport to Plano, with stops in Richardson, Addison, and other North Texas cities.<\/p>\n
Police patrols were visible around the Spring Valley station on Monday as the investigation continues.<\/p>\n
As the rail line expands its reach, riders told WFAA they\u2019re hoping safety keeps up with the pace.<\/p>\n
