The Student Senate introduced two resolutions and killed another during its Tuesday meeting. <\/p>\n

The Senate introduced Resolution 26-02, \u201cCatch Success Before it Fails,\u201d which aims to establish mandatory academic support sessions for students whose GPA falls below 2.25. <\/p>\n

A registration hold would be placed on accounts of students who haven\u2019t finished their academic support sessions, ensuring accountability and alignment with the university\u2019s mission of student achievement, according to the resolution. <\/p>\n

Drew Miller, senior associate vice president for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, who served as temporary acting adviser during the meeting, said the university does have the power to make certain things mandatory; however, if it were to affect the whole student body, it would have to be incorporated in the student handbook, which would require approval by the Board of Regents. <\/p>\n

\u201c[It\u2019s] possible but also can take some time,\u201d Miller said. <\/p>\n

The Senate also introduced Resolution 26-03, \u201cLock, Charge, & Go,\u201d which asks the university to add charging lockers to provide a safe space for students to set aside devices while they charge. The resolution states that students currently rely on unsecured charging stations and exposed cords. <\/p>\n

The addition of the lockers is targeted for the University Center, which faces future renovations, and high-traffic spaces such as The Commons. <\/p>\n

Resolution 25-26, \u201cThe Glitter Haus Act,\u201d which aimed to allow nonbinary students to room with their preferred gender, has been killed in committee, following a conversation with the Office of Legal Affairs, due to legal issues in Texas. <\/p>\n

The Senate also gave updates on these resolutions: <\/p>\n

Resolution 25-29, \u201cMidterm Exam, Midterm Review,\u201d calls for the implementation of a professor review during midterms. <\/p>\n

Resolution 25-28, \u201cOperation Relocation: Bring the Vets to the UC,\u201d calls for the relocation of the Veteran Center to the University Center after renovation. <\/p>\n

Resolution 25-30, \u201cSeeds of Support,\u201d calls for the organization of a campus community garden, the proceeds of which would be donated to the food pantry. <\/p>\n

Resolution 25-25, \u201cFrom Vacancy to Victory,\u201d calls for the implementation of temporary emergency housing and assistance on campus for homeless students. <\/p>\n

Resolution 26-01, \u201cEvery Car Counts,\u201d calls for students to be able to register multiple vehicles under the same parking permit. <\/p>\n

The Student Senate will meet next at 6 p.m. Feb. 24 in the Student Government Chambers in the University Center. <\/p>\n
