Belkoura, Fort Worth Report <br \/>February 11, 2026<\/p>\n<p>Redistricting, affordability and immigration enforcement were among the topics covered during an election forum highlighting local Republican primary candidates.<\/p>\n<p>The Fort Worth Report, alongside fellow nonprofit and nonpartisan organizations <a href=\"https:\/\/www.steerfw.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">SteerFW<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lwv.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">League of Women Voters<\/a>, hosted a sparsely attended candidate forum on Feb. 11 that included Republican candidates for Tarrant County Commissioners Court and the Texas House.<\/p>\n<p>The March 3 primary will decide which Republican and Democratic candidates will advance to the general election in November.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Texas has open primaries, meaning voters can choose to participate in either the Republican or Democratic primary. In November, people may vote for either party\u2019s candidate, regardless of which primary they voted in.<\/p>\n<p>The Report\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/fortworthreport.org\/2026-primary-election-candidate-forums\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">forum<\/a> for local Democratic candidates will take place at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 12 in Texas Wesleyan University\u2019s Baker Building.<\/p>\n<p>Watch the livestream replay of Wednesday\u2019s forum.<\/p>\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"2026 Candidate Forums: Republican Primary Election\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/OCuDy_60aew?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p>Texas House District 91, House District 98 and Tarrant County Commissioners Court Precinct 2<\/p>\n<p>The first panel included candidates for Texas House including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.morris4texas.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Kyle Morris<\/a> (District 91) and <a href=\"https:\/\/zeeforhd98.com\/?fbclid=IwY2xjawP5-MNleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETF5SWJFcGNWbzhjOFlyNVBGc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHinWUB-vw3IApvKy6o1Xr8QwvNMRKGasBD9v2OVqoXKLkLpEjsOoGaU6E5Mn_aem_CKJfggvNtLxZFXmXrDD8Bw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Zdenka &#8220;Zee&#8221; Wilcox<\/a> (District 98). <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lucilafortarrant.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Lucila Seri<\/a>, who is seeking to represent Precinct 2 on the Tarrant County Commissioners Court was also on the panel. Other candidates from the races were invited but did not attend.<\/p>\n<p>Redistricting efforts at the state and local level was not viewed in a positive light by the candidates.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Seri, who currently serves as a Tarrant County precinct chair, said she may have been the only Republican at the county\u2019s redistricting public hearings who spoke against the efforts.<\/p>\n<p>Population data trends didn\u2019t justify a change in the district maps, which impacts her directly as a candidate for the commissioners court, she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf I&#8217;m in office, and I&#8217;m there by 2030, I will probably push to take it back or do something better,\u201d Seri said.<\/p>\n<p>Wilcox said she hadn\u2019t heard anyone from the public speak positively of the efforts.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Morris, a business owner, did not directly take a stance on redistricting but noted it was important to represent all constituents as a public official.<\/p>\n<p>Concerning immigration, all three indicated they supported legal methods of entering the United States and touted the importance of shutting down illegal immigration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are a nation of immigrants. (Maria Crane | Fort Worth Report\/CatchLight Local\/Report for America)<\/p>\n<p>Both Seri and Wilcox mentioned that it was unfair for legal immigrants like themselves to have gone through the proper channels while others forgo the long process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaybe the process needs to be streamlined if we need more people in certain industries, but it&#8217;s not okay to allow people to come down from the border,\u201d Seri said.<\/p>\n<p>In reference to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the candidates noted the value of state and local authorities collaborating with federal officers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can\u2019t just pick and choose. We either want to work with the federal government or we don&#8217;t want to work with the federal government,\u201d said Wilcox, who previously served on Carroll ISD\u2019s board. (Maria Crane | Fort Worth Report\/CatchLight Local\/Report for America)<\/p>\n<p>The candidates indicated the value of bipartisan engagement.<\/p>\n<p>For Morris, efforts to promote safety and security \u201crises above politics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnyone that wants to work with me on keeping our families safe and keeping our community safe, I&#8217;ll work with them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>For Wilcox, the issues that affect everyday citizens don\u2019t recognize a partisan divide.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have to feel safe, and we have to feel that financial security,\u201d she said. \u201cBut right now, I haven&#8217;t really seen any of it. (Maria Crane | Fort Worth Report\/CatchLight Local\/Report for America)<br \/>\nTexas House District 94<\/p>\n<p>House District 94 candidates <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cherylbeanfortexas.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Cheryl Bean<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mikeingraham.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Michael Ingraham<\/a> participated in the second half of the forum. Other candidates from the race were invited but unable to attend.<\/p>\n<p>They also discussed how immigration impacts North Texas.<\/p>\n<p>Bean said immigration has shifted her work in construction by impacting the industry\u2019s workforce.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we experienced in the last four years is an overrun, and a political decision to do what we&#8217;ve done,\u201d Bean said, referring to federal policies and actions that allowed for an influx of immigrants.<\/p>\n<p>Bean did recognize the importance of making legal immigration easier.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ingraham noted the choices made immigration enforcement currently are making the lives of legal immigrants more difficult.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhatever it is we&#8217;re doing right now is making people feel alienated and not wanted in this country,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd maybe that&#8217;s the purpose, but the country I believe in, that&#8217;s not how we operate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, he framed the importance of not interfering with ICE enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would say to those people when I\u2019m in office, \u2018You need to sit down and calm down before you get thrown down,\u2019\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing Taylor Rehmet\u2019s victory in Senate District 9 \u2014 the Democrat flipped a long-held GOP seat in a special election \u2014 the two stressed that division within the Republican Party allowed him to get a leg up.<\/p>\n<p>Bean noted the importance of not letting the differences of opinion within the GOP supersede the similarities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe as citizens need to start talking to one another and finding those areas of commonality,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd I think there are a lot. (Maria Crane | Fort Worth Report\/CatchLight Local\/Report for America)<\/p>\n<p>Ingraham, who\u2019s worked for 26 years in the banking and mortgage industry, agreed, adding that the obsession within the party with labels such as RINO \u2014 shorthand for Republican In Name Only \u2014 or MAGA pushes that divide further.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to unify. I want to bring everybody under one umbrella,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The candidates had mixed views of Tony Tinderholt\u2019s time in the Texas House. He represented District 94 before deciding to run for Tarrant County Commissioners Court Precinct 2.<\/p>\n<p>They praised his savvy ability to employ \u201csoft power,\u201d or using your influence on others behind the scenes, in Austin to get work done in the Legislature without loosening his morals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere&#8217;s been a softening of the ways, partly because of his negotiation skills, but nonetheless, he kind of had this pattern of, \u2018I&#8217;m going to be more the obstructor\u2019 (rather) than \u2018I&#8217;m going to be the work-it-together and build-consensus kind of guy,\u2019\u201d Bean said.<\/p>\n<p>They both criticized Tinderholt\u2019s connection with constituents, which they said slacked off toward the end of his tenure. Tinderholt was invited to participate in the form as a commissioners court candidate but did not attend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think your representative should be someone you have to search out on the internet.
