Both state and federal leaders have targeted the H-1B visa program over the last several months in an effort to reduce the huge amounts of fraud and abuse recently discovered in the program\u2014but it looks like local Democrats aren\u2019t on board with those efforts.<\/p>\n

According to reports from <\/a>The Texan<\/a>,<\/a> Harris County has authorized $50,000 of taxpayer funds to cover legal fees for Harris County employees seeking H-1B visas and green cards.<\/p>\n

This is despite Governor Abbott recently ordering Texas state agencies and colleges to halt their usage of the federal H-1B visa program.<\/a> Jared Woodfill with Conservative Republicans of Texas called this out, saying: \u201cYou really shouldn\u2019t be surprised given the progressive Democrat makeup of Commissioners Court. They usually do the opposite of what\u2019s considered common sense.\u201d<\/p>\n

He went on to say that Harris County shouldn\u2019t even be hiring foreigners in the first place. \u201cIt\u2019s ridiculous to say that you need to bring someone in from outside the country\u2014or even outside the state\u2014to take these jobs,\u201d Woodfill said.<\/p>\n

Woodfill says there isn\u2019t any job in county government that a Texan\u2014or an American\u2014couldn\u2019t do.
