ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Thursday afternoon that burgeoning NBA star Cade Cunningham, an Arlington native, has purchased a stake in his hometown Texas Rangers<\/a>.<\/p>\n Cunningham, a guard for the Detroit Pistons, bought a minority stake in the team, according to Charania. Ray Davis is the majority owner of the team.<\/p>\n Cunningham, 24, attended Arlington Bowie High School before transferring to Montverde Academy in Florida. He then went on to star for a season at Oklahoma State before the Detroit Pistons drafted him first overall in 2021.<\/p>\n This isn’t the first time an active athlete has purchased a stake in a professional team in a different sport. Patrick Mahomes bought a stake in the Kansas City Royals back in 2020.<\/p>\n Detroit Pistons All-Star and Arlington, Texas native Cade Cunningham has purchased a minority ownership stake of his hometown MLB team, the Texas Rangers, he told ESPN.<\/p>\n \u2014 Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) February 12, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n Cunningham has lived up to the hype with the Pistons. He averaged 26.1 points per game and 9.1 assists last year, finishing seventh in the MVP voting. This year he’s averaging 25.3 point and 9.6 assists for the first-place Pistons, who are 40-13 on the season.<\/p>\n
