EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) — Wednesday’s temporary closure of the El Paso Airport might not have cause major issues, but there’s still national concern for what happened. <\/p>\n
During a hearing with the U.S Senate Committee hearing on Science, Commerce, and Transportation, the topic of the FAA and Department of War situation in El Paso came up. <\/p>\n
Multiple U.S Senators wanted more information about what happened to make the decision to shut down airspace in the area. <\/p>\n
Illinois Senator Tammy Duckworth asked for clarity. “What must change at the FAA & DOD to prevent future coordination failures? What is at risk if there’s no improvement?” <\/p>\n
New Mexico Senator Ben Ray Lujan expressed similar concerns, wondering why there was a lack of communication before the decision was made. <\/p>\n
“The FAA as part of the Department of Transportation, the Department of Homeland Security, Border Patrol, and the people that were on the ground that did this, I want to know why they’re not communicating,” said Ray Lujan. <\/p>\n
Senator Ted Cruz is the chair of the committee and said that he’s asked for a classified briefing with the FAA and DOD on the topic.
