<\/p>\n ARLINGTON, Texas \u2013 UT Arlington women’s basketball (10-14, 4-8 WAC) fell to Abilene Christian (18-7, 9-3 WAC) in the CPC Thursday night.\u00a0<\/p>\n Kendal Robinson<\/a> led UTA with 15 points, while Kira Reynolds<\/a> and Nya Threatt<\/a> added 13 apiece. The Mavericks shot 47.7% (21-44) from the floor and went 18-of-22 at the free-throw line, but ACU’s pressure created 28 turnovers that turned into 31 Wildcat points.<\/p>\n “They just out-toughed us tonight\u2026,” said head coach Wright<\/p>\n Abilene Christian came out firing in the first quarter, building a 19-9 advantage behind a balanced offensive attack. The Wildcats shot an efficient 7-of-15 from the field in the opening quarter, with five different players finding the scoring column.<\/p>\n But the Lady Mavericks found their rhythm in the second quarter, outscoring the visitors 19-13 to make it a one-possession game at the break. UT Arlington’s defense tightened considerably, holding ACU to just 6-of-19 shooting in the period while the Lady Mavs connected on 8-of-11 from the field.<\/p>\n UT Arlington came out of the break with energy and traded runs with the Wildcats in the third quarter, scoring 20 in the period to stay within striking distance entering the fourth, 53-48. The Lady Mavs kept applying pressure late, but ACU answered with timely baskets and free throws down the stretch to hold off the comeback attempt.<\/p>\n UTA finished with a 31-26 rebounding edge and hit 3-of-6 from three, but couldn’t overcome the turnover gap as the Wildcats controlled key possessions in the final minutes.<\/p>\n Payton Hull finished with 24 points on 10-of-17 shooting, while Niyah Chavez added 14 points and seven rebounds.
