Sammie Ray Weaver, 90, passed away peacefully January 25, 2026 in Corpus Christi. Born in Sandia, Texas on November 25, 1935, to Arthur Lee and Mary Ella Weaver. Known to some as Slammin\u2019 Sammie, he was a great friend to everyone that knew him. <\/p>\n
Sammie grew up in Corpus Christi graduating from WB Ray High School in 1954, where he is a member of the Texan Athletic Hall of Fame. He took his basketball and baseball talents to Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. While at Southwestern, he met the love of his life, Bettie Jean. They married on June 6, 1959.<\/p>\n
Sammie spent his career in education, teaching and coaching at several Corpus Christi schools, including his alma mater, WB Ray High School. He moved into administration at the Education Service Center, retiring in 1997. After retirement, Sam and Bettie enjoyed numerous vacations with many of their friends, forming lifelong cherished relationships and memories. Sammie was an avid hunter, fisherman, and most importantly, a golfer. In golf, he impacted many people with his quick wit, kindness, and competitiveness. He passed these passions on to his three sons and grandchildren.<\/p>\n
He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Bettie, his sons Mike (Christina), Kirk (Benet) and Brent (Geri); his pride and joy grandchildren, Megan Tatum (John), Joshua Weaver, Sydney Barre (Sam), Jack Weaver, along with blended grandchildren Tara Garcia (Ramon), Mason Villarreal (Emily), and Austin Villarreal; Great grandchildren Cooper Tatum and Poppy Barre, and blended great grandchildren Jordan, Camren, Kody, Landon & Tanner Garcia, and Maddux Villarreal. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Clarence, and Butchie Weaver.<\/p>\n

A celebration of life will be held on February 26 at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church, 900 South Shoreline Drive, Corpus Christi, Texas.<\/p>\n
