It\u2019s heartening that the neighbors care, said partner Cameron Levine, because the Tex-Mex restaurant was created specifically to attract diners in nearby Bluffview and Preston Hollow, in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/2024\/12\/09\/claremont-dallas-neighborhood-restaurant-open-suze-central-market\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/2024\/12\/09\/claremont-dallas-neighborhood-restaurant-open-suze-central-market\/\">enclave of northwest Dallas that could use more dining options<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Neighbors might remember this space as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/2025\/05\/07\/4-dallas-area-restaurants-that-are-not-closed-despite-what-you-might-have-heard\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/2025\/05\/07\/4-dallas-area-restaurants-that-are-not-closed-despite-what-you-might-have-heard\/\">the former Fernando\u2019s, which closed in May 2025 after 20 years<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019ve had people coming up to the windows and say, \u2018We used to do date night here. &#8230; Or, this is where we stopped before our kids\u2019 sports games,\u2019\u201d Levine said. Some of the menu items were dreamt up as long as four or five years ago, said Oscar Aroche, director of operations. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/2023\/06\/12\/patio-restaurant-smoky-rose-to-expand-to-new-dallas-spot-former-dallas-eagle-gay-bar\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/2023\/06\/12\/patio-restaurant-smoky-rose-to-expand-to-new-dallas-spot-former-dallas-eagle-gay-bar\/\">Cantina La Rosa was originally slated for the former Dallas Eagle<\/a> near Maple Avenue and Inwood Road, co-owner David Cash told The News in 2023. The menu is rounded out with nachos, quesadillas, fajitas and enchiladas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">The team sees an opportunity to attract diners who want \u201ca weekly restaurant,\u201d Levine said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">The menu was broadened to include an unexpected chicken Caesar wrap with fries ($16) and a cheeseburger with poblano peppers ($17). Healthy eaters might look to the Cantina Protein Bowl ($17) with cilantro rice, beans, veggies and chicken or steak, a la Chipotle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Aroche loves a $12 appetizer called Mexican \u201cMozzarella Sticks\u201d, or crackly thin fried tortillas that ooze with cheese. Guacamole and salsa verde come on the side for dipping.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Several menu items are named for the owners or their family members, said Aroche, who was raised in Mexico City.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">\u201cWhen I eat something, it reminds me of my mother or grandma,\u201d he said. \u201cEvery part of this menu is a part of us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">For drinks, customers during preliminary opening dinners were reaching for the Spicy Se\u00f1orita margarita and a cantaloupe cream tequila drink. The next room, the bar, has clay-colored walls and a livelier feel. The covered patio is a generous space that, somehow, doesn\u2019t feel like it\u2019s around the corner from a busy Central Market grocery store.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">It\u2019s fitting the owners of one of Dallas\u2019 iconic patio restaurants, Smoky Rose, made the patio a priority at this new restaurant. The space is dotted with clay pots, greenery and equipale, or pigskin tables and chairs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">\u201cIt reminds me of Mexico,\u201d Aroche said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Cantina La Rosa is at 4347 W.
