Watts, 52, died in late January from a fatal heart rhythm called torsades de pointes, a sudden cardiac condition<\/a>. He leaves behind his wife, Tammy Watts, five children, and two grandchildren.<\/p>\nHis career began at age 14 and grew into a legacy as a DJ, radio personality, business owner, and founder of Swishahouse. He also helped shape Houston\u2019s hip-hop scene and launch the careers of several artists.<\/p>\n
In a statement, the family said \u201cdue to an overwhelming amount of love and support,\u201d the King\u2019s Day celebration has been moved to Monday, Feb. 16, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., which falls on Presidents Day.<\/p>\n
\u201cSchools are closed, as well as most people are off work. This gives everyone an opportunity to be apart,\u201d the family said.<\/p>\n
The original King\u2019s Day was scheduled for Feb. 12<\/a>, but the family wanted to ensure the event could include the entire community \u2014 from friends and family to fans.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s important to us to recognize this as a celebration which will truly pay homage to the life and legacy of Michael 5000 Watts,\u201d the family added.<\/p>\n
The celebration will be held at The Bell Tower on 34th (901 W 34th St, Houston, TX 77018). <\/p>\n
Attendees are encouraged to wear black, gold, or white; casual attire is fine, and Swishahouse paraphernalia is welcome.<\/p>\n
