AUSTIN \u2014\u00a0Governor Greg Abbott supported U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Scott Turner in directing the Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity to launch an investigation into the East Plano Islamic Center (EPIC) for potential violations of the Fair Housing Act.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018EPIC City,\u2019 now known as \u2018The Meadow,\u2019 was marketed as an exclusively \u2018Muslim community\u2019 intended to serve as \u2018the epicenter of Islam in America,\u2019\u201d said Governor Abbott. \u201cLast year, I\u00a0directed<\/a>\u00a0the Texas Workforce Commission to investigate EPIC\u00a0and any affiliated entities for violations of the Texas Fair Housing Act. After a thorough investigation, Commission staff later filed a detailed complaint, which HUD has now\u00a0accepted<\/a>\u00a0for federal investigation. I support HUD Secretary Scott Turner\u2019s efforts to hold EPIC and its affiliates accountable to our anti-discrimination laws. Together, we will hold anyone involved in violating the law accountable. The Meadow will remain just that\u2014an empty field.\u201d<\/p>\n
