An alternate learning plan will begin Oct. 7 for Murphy Middle School <\/p>\n
Plano ISD announced that Murphy Middle School will be closed Oct. 6\u201310 while crews carry out environmental remediation work. The decision comes after two independent air quality assessments were conducted in response to concerns raised by parents and staff.<\/p>\n
While the initial round of cleaning addressed some early issues, further testing revealed additional areas affected by elevated humidity and shifting conditions inside the building. Importantly, neither study found evidence of black mold. Still, district leaders say they are moving forward out of an abundance of caution.<\/p>\n
What Remediation Involves<\/p>\n
The upcoming work will focus on making the building safer and healthier for students and staff. Contractors will replace carpet in specific areas, clean and service the HVAC system, disinfect surfaces and install both dehumidifiers and air purifiers. Crews will also reseal windows to prevent moisture from seeping into the building.<\/p>\n
By scheduling the project just before the district\u2019s fall break, Plano ISD aims to minimize classroom disruption while still addressing the problem quickly.<\/p>\n

To keep instruction on track, an alternate learning plan will begin Oct. 7. Details have been shared with families to ensure students can continue coursework during the temporary closure. All extracurricular activities are also postponed until the building reopens.<\/p>\n
