Greg Abbott announced a $4.16 million grant to chip designer Arm Inc. for expanding its Austin campus with a new semiconductor lab.<\/p>\n<p>The expansion will create 320 jobs and bring $71 million in capital investment to the state.<\/p>\n<p>The grant comes from the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund, established in 2023 to boost the state\u2019s chip industry. Texas aims to maintain its position as a national leader in semiconductor manufacturing amid growing competition from other states.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTexas is where the world innovates,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/gov.texas.gov\/news\/post\/governor-abbott-announces-texas-semiconductor-innovation-fund-grant-to-arm-inc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">said<\/a> Abbott. \u201cThis $71 million expansion of Arm\u2019s engineering and innovation hub in Austin will create hundreds of skilled jobs and enhance Texas\u2019 leadership in semiconductor design and manufacturing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>U.K.-based <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arm.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Arm<\/a> specializes in low-power processor architectures for mobile devices, cloud computing, and data centers. The company\u2019s Austin operation designs advanced processors for various applications.<\/p>\n<p>Arm CEO Rene Haas called Austin the company\u2019s largest U.S. site and \u201ca rapidly growing center for advanced chip design.\u201d He said the investment \u201cstrengthens Texas\u2019 position as a global semiconductor leader.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The expansion includes new laboratory facilities with failure analysis capabilities. These labs will support the company\u2019s processor development work.<\/p>\n<p>State Senator Sarah Eckhardt (D-Austin) praised the investment, noting companies choose Texas for its talent pool.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey come because we attract talent here that you simply can\u2019t find anywhere else in the world,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Representative Donna Howard (D-Austin) emphasized Austin\u2019s decades-long transformation into a technology hub. She said the grant will spur continued regional investment while benefiting the entire state.<\/p>\n<p>The Texas CHIPS Act created both the grant fund and the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Consortium. The Texas CHIPS Office, within the Governor\u2019s Economic Development &amp; Tourism Office, administers these programs.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative aims to leverage state investments in semiconductors and encourage industry expansion.
