ARLINGTON, Texas – The Wisconsin softball team enjoyed a pair of victories to kick off the action at the Dream City Invitational from the Lone Star State, posting multiple runs in three separate innings over the course of the doubleheader to secure two wins.<\/p>\n
The Badgers (5-2) earned multiple standout performances en route to a sweep, highlighted by a combined 20 hits between the two games.\u00a0

GAME ONE
\nThe Badgers’ offense exploded in the seventh inning to take down Iowa State in their first game of the weekend, posting four runs in the final frame to defeat the Cyclones 5-1.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Early on, senior Emily Bojan<\/a> got the scoring started with her first home run of the season, a solo blast.\u00a0<\/p>\n Freshman Berritt Herr<\/a> continued to excel in the circle after making her collegiate debut last weekend, navigating through some early traffic on Friday morning. Iowa State provided an answer in the fifth, plating a run after a pair of doubles to knot the game up at 1-1.\u00a0<\/p>\n Wisconsin began their rally with back-to-back walks from sophomore Hannah Conger<\/a> and Bojan. Conger then stole a base to set up junior Hilary Blomberg<\/a>. The Verona native laid down a squeeze bunt to grab the lead back for the Badgers, driving in Conger.\u00a0<\/p>\n The middle part of the order delivered once again, beginning with sophomore Kendra Lewis<\/a>, who extended her hit streak to six games with the help of a 2-RBI double to make it 4-1. Junior Danielle Lucey<\/a> kept the inning alive with two outs, lacing a double to the opposite field to add on another run.\u00a0<\/p>\n Herr retired the last eight batters she faced, powering UW past Iowa State with the first complete game of her collegiate career. The Ashwaubenon native struck out three batters while allowing four hits in the longest outing from a Badger this season.\u00a0<\/p>\n Batting Cleanup:
GAME TWO UW posted six runs in the second inning, as they answered back from an early 1-0 deficit. Redshirt freshman Jaclyn Showalter<\/a> posted the first home run of her career to lead off the frame\u2014setting the stage for the bottom half of the order.\u00a0<\/p>\n Freshman Claire Calmes<\/a> and Conger each plated a pair of Badgers to extend the lead to 5-1. Conger was eventually driven in by Blomberg, who provided a game-high three RBI for UW.\u00a0<\/p>\n UT Arlington added three runs in the fourth frame, cutting into the deficit and knocking Lewis out of the circle. Senior Shelby Jacobson<\/a> came on and cooled the Mavericks’ offense, throwing 2.2 shutout innings in relief\u2014allowing zero hits while striking out five.\u00a0<\/p>\n In the top half of the fourth, Wisconsin continued to threaten on the offensive end. Lewis, after a strong game one, was more of the same at the plate, this time barreling a line drive to the outfield to drive in Bojan and make it 7-4.<\/p>\n Two innings later, the Badgers scored their most runs in a single frame this season\u2014plating seven to push past UT Arlington in run-rule fashion. Blomberg blasted her second home run of the year and the 21st of her career, making it 9-4.\u00a0<\/p>\n Freshman Addison Wery<\/a> followed it up with a two-RBI triple, the first of her career. One batter later, Wery crossed home plate with the help of a single turned in by sophomore Emma King<\/a>. After a single from Conger, Bojan flipped the lineup over and pulled a double off the left field wall to drive in two. All five of those Badgers’ runs came with two outs.\u00a0<\/p>\n Left-hander Jordan Felci<\/a> came on in the final inning, retiring the side with a strikeout to wrap up game two of the day.\u00a0<\/p>\n Batting Cleanup:\u00a0

\n\tAfter hitting .462 last weekend, Danielle Lucey<\/a> continued to produce with a 1-for-3 showing, doubling and plating a run.
\n\tHannah Conger<\/a> extended her on-base streak to six consecutive games, scoring the game-winning run for the Badgers in the seventh after a leadoff walk.
