On the campus of UT Arlington, it\u2019s the end of an era for the Movin\u2019 Mavs.<\/p>\n
The team is moving from its longtime home. UTA\u2019s Physical Education Building will soon be torn down.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s really sentimental because I feel like the [Physical Education Building] has shaped me into the person I am today,\u201d said player Kesean Paire. \u201cIt taught me a lot about myself, and I just was able to grow in this gym.\u201d<\/p>\n
The building has been home to the program for decades.<\/p>\n
It is one of the winningest wheelchair basketball college programs in the country.<\/p>\n
Head coach Aaron Gouge won a national championship while a student at UTA, then won a gold medal for Team USA at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt feels like I spent probably half my life in this building, so it\u2019s super sentimental to get these last games here,\u201d Gouge said.<\/p>\n
After Saturday night\u2019s game, the men’s and women\u2019s wheelchair basketball programs will move to College Park Center and transition to UTA\u2019s athletics division.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been fun that it\u2019s been our space, but it\u2019s going to be even better to be part of the athletic program,\u201d said Gouge.<\/p>\n
The team will have access to everything other varsity teams have, including trainers and academic resources.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re going to have more opportunities to be successful, not only as student athletes, but in the classroom,\u201d said Paire.<\/p>\n
Paire said he and his teammates remain focused on winning another national title this spring. High expectations they\u2019ll take to their new home.<\/p>\n
