The Lady Chaps responded with a layup by Kennedy Chappell , which was the first of 10 points in the period for the junior guard. Trailing 5-4, LCU would respond with 11-0 run, which was part of a 13-2 run to close the quarter for a 17-7 LCU lead (TAMIU went 1-for-12 from the field during the LCU run).

The Lady Chaps extended the run to a 15-2 run on an early layup in the frame by Martie McCoy, before the Dustdevils ended the dry spell. Chappell contributed significantly with 9 points in the period and was 4-of-4 from the free throws. She went 6-of-6 from the field in the first half (had 19 points in the half) and the perfect first half performance (not only 6-of-6 from the field in the half, but also 6-of-6 from the charity stripe) included nailing a three-pointer, pushing the lead to 38-17. Meg Meekins and Kyndle Cunningham each made key baskets, with Meekins also recording a timely assist to help produce a 9-2 LCU run. Tia Johnson closed the quarter with a free throw, securing a 41-19 advantage for the Lady Chaps at halftime (LCU closed the half on a 10-2 run).

In the third quarter, the Chaps extended their lead with a commanding performance, outscoring the visitors 20-8. Tia Johnson added four points with a layup at 8:31 and a pair of free throws in the final seconds for four points in the frame. Chappell contributed significantly with a layup at 6:20 and two free throws at 5:34. LCU had a 14-2 run in the quarter, and Mattie Dollar’s layup with 39 seconds remaining capped off the period (she led LCU with six points in the period), giving the Chaps a 61-27 advantage heading into the final quarter.

In the fourth quarter, the Chaparrals secured their victory by maintaining their lead with strong offensive play. Andrea Reyes opened the period with a jumper for the Dustdevils, but the Chaparrals responded promptly as Raegan Lee converted a layup at 8:45, followed by a successful and-one free throw to extend the lead to 64-29. Despite a brief scoring effort from Racheal Emmanuel, who added a layup and two free throws for TAMIU (she scored 9 for the Dustdevils in the quarter), the home team’s offense proved relentless. Lee further solidified their advantage with a three-pointer at 2:12, and Deja Johnson added a layup at 1:42, pushing the score to 78-39.
