San Antonio \u2014 It wasn\u2019t the birthday Blanca Aguero had imagined.<\/p>\n
Instead of candles or cake, she spent her 50th birthday in a chemo chair at University Hospital\u2014fighting stage 4 cervical cancer.<\/p>\n
\u201cI felt numb, lost. I was mad, confused, asking why me,\u201d Blanca said.<\/p>\n
The Northwest Side mother of three has one wish: to live long enough to watch her daughter graduate. But chemo stripped away more than her strength\u2014it took her self-esteem.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t feel complete. I don\u2019t feel whole. I don\u2019t feel like a woman. I feel lost,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Then, a local hairstylist named Erica Escamilla stepped in\u2014gifting Blanca a custom wig and the courage to face the mirror again.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m blessed and grateful for having to meet her, because me getting this wig has made me happy,\u201d Blanca said.<\/p>\n
Erica runs Tangled with Strength, a small movement she started after a client once asked her to shave her head before chemo.<\/p>\n
\u201cI asked God to help me figure out what I needed to do,\u201d Erica recalled. \u201cHe placed this in my heart, and I\u2019ve been doing it since.\u201d<\/p>\n
