Eric Uzelac, who runs an estate sale business, said the home has helped him get back on his feet after a long illness.<\/p>\n
ARLINGTON, Texas \u2014 As the owner of Junk in the Trunk, an estate liquidation company, Eric Uzelac makes a living selling other people\u2019s stuff.<\/p>\n
However, when he was asked to sell the contents of a home in Arlington, nothing prepared him for what was inside.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have never seen a collection that is this catastrophic,\u201d Uzelac laughed.<\/p>\n
The home is a modest single-story, but step inside and you\u2019ll find a story and a half.<\/p>\n
Uzelac says the homeowner, an elderly woman who recently died, had collected thousands upon thousands of cats.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think I said \u2018me-wow,\u2019\u201d Uzelac joked.<\/p>\n
Almost every item in the home was adorned with a cat, right down to the handle on the toilet.<\/p>\n
\u201cI often wonder if a real cat came into this house, what it would think?\u201d Uzelac questioned. \u201c\u2018What does she do to cats in here? Am I going to become a teapot?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
When Uzelac let the cat out of the bag and posted the sale on social media, a line began to form around the corner and down the street, all people looking for some cat-isfaction.<\/p>\n
But no one needed it more than he did.<\/p>\n
\u201cI sometimes look at it like, the curator of all this was spending this time like putting a rehab program together for me,\u201d Uzelac said. \u201cIt\u2019s kind of weird.\u201d<\/p>\n
A couple of years ago, while traveling, Uzelac got pneumonia and fell into a coma. Unsure he\u2019d ever wake up, loved ones started saying goodbye.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s still a little hard for me to talk about my coma,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
When he woke up and left the hospital 10 months later, this was his first client, which he said was cat-thartic.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt gave me an opportunity to pick up the pieces after I woke up,\u201d Uzelac said.<\/p>\n
He says the house. and people’s reaction to it brought back a joy he\u2019d lost. He got to know the owner and appreciate her oddities, including, perhaps, the most unlikely oddity of all.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere were no living cats in the home when she passed,\u201d he said. \u201cThere was only a little dog in recent years.\u201d<\/p>\n
As if that wasn\u2019t unusual enough, across the street is a home adorned with Mickey Mouse figurines.<\/p>\n
