He\u2019s running for Congress to take the seat Jodey Arrington will soon leave.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy grandparents, they came to West Texas and they were farm workers. Two generations later, their grandson has the opportunity to represent the very same land that my grandparents picked cotton and cantaloupes in,\u201d Enriquez said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s the American dream that I believe is still alive in West Texas and that\u2019s the American dream that I want to fight to protect,\u201d said Enriquez, who was born and raised in Lubbock.<\/p>\n<p>Ongoing coverage:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lubbocklights.com\/learn-whats-coming-as-lubbock-lights-kicks-off-texas-primary-26-coverage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Learn what\u2019s coming as Lubbock Lights kicks off Texas Primary \u201826 coverage<\/a><\/p>\n<p>He graduated from Monterey High School, then Abilene Christian University with a double major in political science and Spanish.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI credit a lot of ACU for how I lead, how I build coalitions. But more importantly, how I give back to the community,\u201d Enriquez said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRight after college, I came right back to Lubbock. And from here, I built an organization that now has provided the experience and the momentum to run for Congress,\u201d Enriquez said.<\/p>\n<p>Bienvenido is that organization.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut in that summer, I kind of couldn\u2019t sit still and I was seeing this really big push for Latinx ideology in the Hispanic community. \u2026 We were no longer allowed to call each other Latino or Latina. That was like \u2018Latinx.\u2019 And it really didn\u2019t sit still with me. And so I started a movement called Bienvenido,\u201d Enriquez said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was just me and a couple friends from across the state,\u201d Enriquez said.<\/p>\n<p>But he said they set records for first-time registered Republican voters in heavily Hispanic neighborhoods.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of that gained some traction. And before I know it, I\u2019m invited to the White House to do a Hispanic leadership summit,\u201d Enriquez said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom 2018 to 2020, I had a front row seat how the Trump administration was bringing in the Hispanic community to help shape policy. \u2026 I\u2019ll always be thankful for the Trump administration and the president for opening doors for me and more importantly, for my community,\u201d Enriquez.<\/p>\n<p>That led to interviews with CNN and Fox News.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI became a nationally recognized figure as it pertains to Republican politics,\u201d Enriquez said.<\/p>\n<p>What are the priorities?<\/p>\n<p>The number 1 \u201ckitchen table\u201d issue he hears about is the cost of living, Enriquez said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou have families right now \u2013 young families my age \u2013 that are delaying having children or starting a family because, to them, the economic relief just hasn\u2019t been there. The cost of living still hasn\u2019t been alleviated to them. People are desperately asking, when will I be able to purchase a home? Those are very common conversations that I\u2019m having,\u201d Enriquez said.<\/p>\n<p>Enriquez mentioned to LubbockLights.com the development of data centers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is significant investment and growth coming in, which is exciting to most, but also a little cautious to others \u2013 and what I mean by that was billions of dollars of investments into these data centers,\u201d Enriquez said.<\/p>\n<p>Enriquez wants to make sure the development of data centers is careful to consider the issue of water usage.<\/p>\n<p>He also touched on the border.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to ensure that we\u2019re codifying President Trump\u2019s border policies on day one. \u2026 It\u2019s mostly through executive order, which means it\u2019s going to take one more Democrat president to go in there and cause the chaos that we saw under the Biden administration,\u201d Enriquez said.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a 2026\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Enriquez thinks Congress would move faster if lawmakers were on a deadline in the form of term limits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe in term limits, and I will vote on any policy that I would say is an appropriate time frame for term limits,\u201d Enriquez said.<\/p>\n<p>He also thinks it\u2019s not enough be conservative. The representative for Lubbock and Abilene must be able to build what he calls a broad coalition.<\/p>\n<p>As evidence, he mentioned the recent special election to fill Texas State Senate District 9 (Fort Worth).
