{"id":167234,"date":"2026-02-16T22:21:19","date_gmt":"2026-02-16T22:21:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/167234\/"},"modified":"2026-02-16T22:21:19","modified_gmt":"2026-02-16T22:21:19","slug":"houston-pop-up-sandwich-shop-finds-permanent-home-on-washington-avenue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/167234\/","title":{"rendered":"Houston pop-up sandwich shop finds permanent home on Washington Avenue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Set to open this spring, Yuma will take over the space <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/houston\/heights-river-oaks-montrose\/dining\/2025\/12\/03\/washington-avenue-ramen-restaurant-to-close-after-12-years-of-business\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">previously occupied by Ninja Ramen.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The backstory<\/p>\n<p>After more than a year of searching for a permanent location, owner Miriam Leek-Meira said the popular Brazilian and Cuban sandwich shop will open this spring.<\/p>\n<p>The business had previously been operating as a pop-up shop throughout Houston for the past two years before Meira and her husband, Mike Hartley, found the right spot for the concept.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverything seemed to kind of fall into place &#8230; a friend of ours told us [to] hold on for that unicorn, and it felt like we&#8217;d finally found that unicorn after over a year of searching,\u201d Meira said.<\/p>\n<p>The details<\/p>\n<p>The restaurant will present a fast-casual atmosphere, Meira said, but with quality ingredients and food made from scratch. She also said the menu will feature an extensive non-alcoholic beverage selection for individuals who don\u2019t drink alcohol.<\/p>\n<p>As for the interior, the 124-year-old building is undergoing a few cosmetic changes to brighten the space up, including the addition of lots of fresh plants, Meira said.<\/p>\n<p>A closer look<\/p>\n<p>Meira said she\u2019s optimistic the community will respond well to the brick-and-mortar location as she believes the concept \u201cscreams Houston.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHopefully, all the other new faces we have yet to meet will walk through our doors and love what we&#8217;re doing,\u201d she said. \u201cThe quality and intention we put into everything are really rooted in our heritage.
