{"id":168903,"date":"2026-02-18T00:39:15","date_gmt":"2026-02-18T00:39:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/168903\/"},"modified":"2026-02-18T00:39:15","modified_gmt":"2026-02-18T00:39:15","slug":"west-universitys-upgraded-public-works-facility-set-to-open-in-april","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/168903\/","title":{"rendered":"West University\u2019s upgraded public works facility set to open in April"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWest University Place will soon have a new public works facility that will be nearly three times the size of its current facility, city officials said.<\/p>\n<p>The overview<\/p>\n<p>During West U\u2019s State of the City address Feb. 16, Mayor Susan Sample shared that the $12.4 million facility is <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/houston\/bellaire-meyerland-west-university\/government\/2025\/01\/14\/west-university-officials-award-10m-contract-for-new-public-works-facility\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">expected to open at the end of April <\/a>and will house the entire public works operational division and the parks maintenance division, which will free up space in the Recreation Center.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s going to be amazing, I think, for residents and for everybody that works there,\u201d Sample said. \u201cIt represents our first new building in 15 years, and we\u2019ll relocate staff facilities right over there to a modern, state-of-the-art facility that enables them to continue to work on the best service the city can provide.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The details<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westutx.gov\/1521\/Public-Works-Facility-Phase-I\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">new facility <\/a>will be at Westpark Drive and Dincans Street, and will be over 17,000 square feet and two stories tall. The current facility is located on Amherst Street.<\/p>\n<p>The facility will include three vehicle bays, <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/houston\/bellaire-meyerland-west-university\/city-county\/2023\/05\/22\/5-updates-on-progress-with-west-us-new-public-works-building\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">an upgrade from the two at the current facility<\/a>. Austin Bishop, assistant to the city manager, said this means a full fire engine will be able to fit in the facility for maintenance.
