Opioid overdoses continue to pose a serious health threat, and experts agree that access to education and medication can make the difference between life and death.

“Education and access to Naloxone are critical tools in preventing overdose-related deaths,” said the workshop organizers. “By offering this training at no cost, we hope to increase awareness and preparedness throughout our community.”

The hands-on training will equip attendees with the knowledge to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose—including slow or shallow breathing, unresponsiveness, and pale skin—and respond with confidence and speed.

Participants will receive instruction on the safe and effective use of Naloxone, a medication that works rapidly to reverse the effects of opioid overdoses by blocking opioid receptors in the brain. The drug has been proven to restore normal breathing and consciousness in overdose victims, often buying crucial time until emergency medical services arrive.

The training requires no prior medical knowledge and is open to the general public at no cost. Organizers hope the second offering will reach even more members of the community who want to be prepared.

For more information or to confirm attendance, community members can contact Lubbock Public Health at 806-775-3890.

Copyright 2026 KCBD.
