Tesla has implemented prototypes in different cities in the country in 2025, with prototypes in Austin having reported several accidents in the city, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2026\/02\/17\/tesla-robotaxi-adds-5-more-crashes-austin-month-4x-worse-than-humans\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Electrek<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Other controversies involving Telsa\u2019s self-driving mode have caused the U.S. National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration to open an investigation based on multiple reports that the Tesla self-driving mode has broken multiple traffic laws in different states.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe investigation covered 2.9 million vehicles, essentially all Teslas equipped with full self-driving technology, or FSD. Critics say the name is a misnomer that has lulled drivers into handing full control over to their cars. The federal agency responsible for auto safety said in a letter to Tesla on Dec. 3, 2025 that it was investigating 62 complaints, up from 58 reported incidents in October,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/spectrumlocalnews.com\/tx\/austin\/news\/2026\/01\/17\/tesla-granted-more-time-in-us-investigation-into-its-self-driving-tech\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">article stated<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Telsa\u2019s technology for its autonomous vehicles is different from Waymo&#8217;s . <a href=\"https:\/\/spectrumlocalnews.com\/tx\/austin\/news\/2025\/07\/09\/tesla-robo-taxis-launch-\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">According to<\/a> Spectrum News, Waymo uses \u201ccameras, lidar and radar systems to commute through the streets of Austin\u201d while Tesla strictly uses self-driving software.<\/p>\n<p>In abother\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/spectrumlocalnews.com\/tx\/south-texas-el-paso\/news\/2025\/12\/11\/elon-musk-says-robotaxis-to-be-operational-by-end-of-2025\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">report<\/a>, Elon Musk, Telsa\u2019s CEO, stated that the autonomous nature of the vehicles is \u201cpretty much a solved problem\u201d and added that they were going through validation to fix everything for the full production run.<\/p>\n<p>According to an <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/elonmusk\/status\/2023409484757147983?s=20\" rel=\"nofollow\">X post<\/a> by Musk, the Cybercab will start full production in April 2026.
