Disney Channel alum Christy Carlson Romano confessed the new fears<\/a> she has about her health following a recent cancer screening that came back positive.<\/p>\n

In a video shared on Instagram, the \u201cEven Stevens\u201d star<\/a> became visibly emotional, crying at times, as she provided fans with a major life update. She revealed that she and her husband, \u00a0Brendan Rooney, agreed to undergo the cancer screenings together as a precaution, especially given her family\u2019s history with the disease.<\/p>\n

Both of her parents were diagnosed with cancer, Romano explained. And while her mother ultimately \u201cbeat it,\u201d she said her father \u00a0\u201ceventually didn\u2019t,\u201d adding that her maternal grandmother also died of lung cancer.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy husband\u2019s came back completely negative,\u201d she said of the results. \u201cMine did not come back negative<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Next, the actress and \u201cVulnerable\u201d podcast host will have to undergo a PET scan<\/a>, an imaging test that further checks for signs of cancer, in addition to heart disease and brain disorders.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sure people think I\u2019m overreacting,\u201d she said through tears. \u201cBut I\u2019m not, because cancer is pretty serious. Man, I have two little girls.\u201d<\/p>\n

Romano also reflected on the recent loss of fellow actor James Van Der Beek<\/a>, who had colorectal cancer. He died earlier this month at the age of 48.<\/p>\n

\u201cI live in Austin, and I was able to meet James Van Der Beek a bunch,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis family\u2019s amazing. He\u2019s a pillar of our community<\/a> in Texas,\u201d she continued. \u201cThey always were raising money for the most amazing charities, and he\u2019s not with us anymore. Cancer is everywhere. Which is why I got this test.\u201d<\/p>\n

Romano also said she would \u201ckeep fighting for answers,\u201d<\/a> and shouted out her \u201cloving family\u201d for their ongoing support.<\/p>\n

In the caption, the 41-year-old actress admitted she was initially hesitant to share her news, but she decided to anyway with the hopes that others will get early screenings and tests.<\/p>\n
