{"id":170103,"date":"2026-02-18T18:55:06","date_gmt":"2026-02-18T18:55:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/170103\/"},"modified":"2026-02-18T18:55:06","modified_gmt":"2026-02-18T18:55:06","slug":"shun-thomas-sworn-in-as-newest-plano-city-council-member","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/170103\/","title":{"rendered":"Shun Thomas sworn in as newest Plano City Council member"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tShun Thomas was sworn in as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plano.gov\/1345\/Mayor-and-City-Council\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Plano City Council\u2019s<\/a> newest member Feb. 9.<\/p>\n<p>What you need to know<\/p>\n<p>Council unanimously voted to canvass election results from the <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/dallas-fort-worth\/plano-north\/election\/2026\/01\/31\/final-shun-thomas-wins-plano-city-council-place-7-special-election\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jan. 31 special election<\/a>, in which Thomas defeated Colleen Aguilar-Epstein in a race for the Place 7 council seat.<\/p>\n<p>Thomas replaces former Place 7 council member Julie Holmer, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plano.gov\/1345\/Mayor-and-City-Council\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">announced her resignation<\/a> last November to pursue a seat on the Collin County Commissioners Court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe decisions made in local government truly affect people&#8217;s lives, making this work incredibly rewarding. I want to express my gratitude to everyone who provided such strong support during my time on council,\u201d Holmer said. \u201cI&#8217;m so proud of [Thomas]. I know your experience, your history, your love for Plano and all that you&#8217;ve given already to our community.
