James Van Der Beek renewed his wedding vows with his wife, Kimberly Van Der Beek, in an intimate and \u201cmoving\u201d ceremony just days before the actor\u2019s death last week.<\/a><\/p>\n

The \u201cDawson\u2019s Creek\u201d star<\/a> died Feb. 11, just over a year after revealing he had stage 3 colorectal cancer.<\/p>\n

A few days before the actor died at the age of 48, the couple enlisted the help of their friends and family to renew their love in a \u201csimple, beautiful and moving\u201d ceremony<\/a>, his wife of 15 years told People in a story published Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe decided two days beforehand, and our friends got us new rings, filled our bedroom with flowers and candles, and we renewed our vows from bed,\u201d Kimberly said, noting that family members and some close friends attended in person, while other loved ones participated via Zoom.<\/p>\n

One of the friends in attendance \u2014 the Brazilian-born multi-instrumentalist Porangu\u00ed \u2014 played the \u201cmost beautiful music\u201d and concluded the ceremony with the Judy Garland classic \u201cSomewhere Over the Rainbow,\u201d she told the publication.<\/p>\n

James, who rose to international fame as Dawson Leery in the pre-streaming teen drama beloved late Gen Xers and millennials, \u201cpassed peacefully\u201d on the morning of Feb. 11, his wife shared on his official Instagram page.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe met his final days with courage, faith and grace,\u201d said Kimberly, who shares six children with the late actor.<\/p>\n
