{"id":172426,"date":"2026-02-20T04:37:09","date_gmt":"2026-02-20T04:37:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/172426\/"},"modified":"2026-02-20T04:37:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-20T04:37:09","slug":"montrose-business-owner-says-accused-stalker-left-sexual-threatening-letters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/172426\/","title":{"rendered":"Montrose business owner says accused stalker left sexual, threatening letters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">HOUSTON \u2013 A Montrose small business owner says a stranger who somehow knew her full name spent nearly two weeks stalking her, leaving and even mailing a series of increasingly graphic and threatening letters before he was finally arrested.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Jessica Rahm first went public about her experience on TikTok, telling followers of @365daysofjessica, \u201cI am being stalked slash harassed in Houston,\u201d and later warning that the messages were \u201cgetting more and more intimate,\u201d and \u201cunbelievably insane.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Rahm told only KPRC 2 News she got a lot of good advice from other social media users on how to move the case forward and hopes to raise awareness going forward.<\/p>\n<p>What happened<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Surveillance video from her business captured a man delivering the first handwritten letter earlier this month. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">What followed, Rahm says, were at least ten envelopes \u2013 some dropped off in person, others mailed \u2013 filled with sexual content and disturbing details that made it clear he had been watching her closely.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cHe talked about in some of these about my car and getting in and out and items I was wearing,\u201d Rahm said. \u201cI was spending the day mostly wondering where he\u2019s at.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Some of the letters, she says, weren\u2019t safe for work, and as they kept coming, the tone turned more threatening.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cSome of these letters get more threatening as it goes on,\u201d Rahm said. \u201cMultiple times he talks about how he\u2019s going to smoke me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">One envelope included a map showing where the man claimed he lived. Rahm sent a male friend to that location to tell him to stop, which was captured on video. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">She also realized this was no prank and called Houston police after the second letter arrived.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Using the name signed on the letters, Rahm searched online and found a sex offender registration photo from last year that matched the man in her surveillance video. Still, she says that more than once officers told her simply leaving letters wasn\u2019t a crime.<\/p>\n<p>Texas stalking laws<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">That response highlights a broader problem, according to advocates who say Texas\u2019 stalking laws and enforcement practices haven\u2019t caught up with the reality of how offenders target victims.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cI do not believe that the system is fully equipped to address stalking situations,\u201d said Heather Bellino, CEO of the Texas Advocacy Project. \u201cThis is pattern-based criminal activity. And it might not look like criminal activity if you are being stalked.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Bellino says the law focuses on a pattern of behavior that causes a person to feel fear, but individual acts \u2013 like leaving a note or showing up near someone\u2019s workplace \u2013 can be minimized or dismissed when viewed in isolation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cOften a victim does need to become their own advocate,\u201d she said, urging people to keep detailed records, save messages and report every incident to law enforcement. \u201cLaw enforcement could use more training on it. Advocates absolutely could use more training on this. But let\u2019s be honest, the general population in society and the victims themselves need to understand that when their gut is telling them something is off and wrong, they really need to listen to that.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Rahm did what she now urges other victims to do: save everything.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cI would tell everyone, document, document, document,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Suspected stalker\u2019s arrest<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Rahm continued to call police as the letters mounted.
