{"id":172471,"date":"2026-02-20T05:23:11","date_gmt":"2026-02-20T05:23:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/172471\/"},"modified":"2026-02-20T05:23:11","modified_gmt":"2026-02-20T05:23:11","slug":"dallas-doctor-and-childrens-health-next-in-lawsuits-over-gender-affirming-care","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/172471\/","title":{"rendered":"Dallas doctor and Children\u2019s Health next in lawsuits over gender-affirming care"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">AUSTIN (KXAN) \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.childrens.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Children\u2019s Health System of Texas;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Children\u2019s Health System of Texas<\/a> and a Dallas area doctor are facing a lawsuit from the Texas Attorney General\u2019s Office claiming they participated in Medicaid fraud and violated Senate Bill 14.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A press release from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton\u2019s office asserts that Pediatric Adolescent Gynecologist Jason Jarin and Children\u2019s Health did illegal acts under the <a href=\"https:\/\/statutes.capitol.texas.gov\/?tab=1&amp;code=HR&amp;chapter=HR.36&amp;artSec=\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Texas Health Care Program Fraud Prevention Act;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Texas Health Care Program Fraud Prevention Act<\/a> (\u201cTHFPA\u201d) by changing patients\u2019 gender.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cI will use every legal tool available to ensure radical gender activists like Jarin face justice for hurting our kids,\u201d Paxton said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The lawsuit claims Dr. Jarin engaged in a fraud scheme by billing Texas Medicaid for cross-sex testosterone, estrogen and puberty blockers, which is not allowed by Texas law.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Children\u2019s Health affirmed that patient health and well-being is its top concern.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cWe comply with all applicable local, state and federal health care laws. Due to ongoing legal proceedings, we are unable to comment further at this time,\u201d wrote Children\u2019s Health in an email statement to KXAN.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Enacted September 2023, Senate Bill 14 prohibits gender-affirming care including puberty blockers, hormone therapy and transitional surgery for minors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Jarin is the fourth suit from the Texas Attorney General\u2019s Office claiming a violation of SB 14 and the third doctor from Dallas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Also, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2025\/10\/24\/paxton-transgender-lawsuit-doctor\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:following Dr. May Lau;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">following Dr. May Lau<\/a>, this is the second lawsuit aimed at a doctor from UT Southwestern in violation of SB 14.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The attorney general\u2019s office is seeking over $1 million in damages including civil penalties.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
