They came within five points of losing the streak, but they secured a 47-42 W against the Carroll Tigers. That’s the second time they’ve managed to beat them this season, as they also won 43-42 back in January.

As for Carroll, they now have a losing record of 17-18. While losing is never fun, they can’t take it too hard given the team’s big disadvantage in MaxPreps’ Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 642nd, while Flour Bluff is ranked 296th).

Carroll’s defeat shouldn’t obscure the performances of Caleb Black, who shot 55% from the field on his way to 19 points and five steals, and Darryn Fillmore, who posted seven points and ten boards. Black is becoming a predictor of the Tigers’ success: when he posts at least five steals the team is 2-1 (and 15-17 when he doesn’t). Another player making a difference was Daniel Sanchez, who scored nine points.

Flour Bluff and Carroll are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Hornets will square off against Palmview at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Carroll, they will challenge Miller at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers will be up against the Buccaneers’ rather soft defense (which has allowed 56.25 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
