AUSTIN, Texas \u2014 Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced on Friday he has filed a lawsuit against\u00a0Lola Olivia<\/a>, Inc., a New York City retailer that sells chest binders.\u00a0<\/p>\n Paxton claims the company is marketing the products to Texas girls as young as 9 years old to \u201ctransition\u201d them. His office alleges the binders can cause more than two dozen medical conditions, including permanent breast damage, back and chest pain, shortness of breath and rib fractures.\u00a0<\/p>\n Lola Olivia describes its products as \u201cinclusive, age-appropriate undergarments for young adults.\u201d It says its products\u00a0<\/a>\u201cprotect the growing body but maintain an effective compression,\u201d and that they \u201cdo not hug the ribcage,\u201d allowing wearers to breathe comfortably and grow naturally.\u00a0<\/p>\n As of Friday morning, the company’s website\u00a0listed some of its products as “binders”<\/a> \u2013 but by Friday afternoon, the “binders” section had been removed and replaced with a section labeled \u201ccompression tops.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n In a statement, Paxton said he believes \u201ctransitioning a minor is child abuse, and any corporation doing it will face swift and unrelenting justice.\u201d He added that, \u201cIt\u2019s unconscionable that there are people in this world who are trying to make a fortune by hurting kids, but that\u2019s exactly what\u2019s going on here.\u201d<\/p>\n
