Republican congressional candidate Weston Martinez is calling on the Texas Secretary of State to shut down early voting and enact \u201cemergency protocol\u201d after alleging without proof that his campaign uncovered voter fraud in Bexar County.<\/p>\n

\u201cLadies and gentlemen, this is not a Republican or Democrat issue,\u201d Martinez, a candidate to represent Texas\u2019 21st Congressional District, said in a Facebook video posted Friday. \u201cWe have to secure our elections, and we have to do it now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Specifically, Martinez is alleging that residents here have voted multiple times using different voter IDs. He also claims the Bexar County Elections Department\u2019s office provided the evidence to his campaign. <\/p>\n

Even so, Bexar County Elections Department Administrator Michele Carew denies Martinez\u2019s claims. <\/p>\n

\u201cAfter thorough review, we found no evidence to support these claims,\u201d Carew told the Current in a statement. \u201cWe encourage the public to review the official voter roster, which is available on the Bexar County Elections website and is accessible to everyone. Bexar County conducts elections efficiently, accurately, and in accordance with established laws, regulations, and governmental policies.\u201d<\/p>\n

What\u2019s more, former Bexar County GOP Vice Chairman Kyle Sinclair, who\u2019s running against Martinez in the Republican primary the 21st District,\u00a0told the Current that his opponent\u2019s claims are highly unlikely. Both men are running for a red-leaning seat that opened after U.S. Rep. Chip Roy decided to run for Texas Attorney General.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo you\u2019re telling me out of the millions of people, [Martinez] is the only person in Texas that knows what\u2019s going on and uncovered this massive fraud?\u201d Sinclair said. \u201cExcuse my language, but he\u2019s full of shit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Martinez has a long and bumpy career in state GOP politics.<\/p>\n

He ran unsuccessful bids for Texas Railroad Commission in 2016 and 2018. He also ran for Texas GOP Chairman in 2024, but lost that too.<\/p>\n

With his campaign reporting only about $5,600 in cash on hand as of Dec. 31, and a crowded field of candidates, Martinez also remains a long shot in the GOP primary for the 21st District.\u200b<\/p>\n

Martinez\u2019s campaign didn\u2019t respond to the Current\u2019s request to further back up his voter fraud allegations.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s worth noting that proven cases of voter fraud remain exceptionally rare, with the number of confirmed cases in modern history hovering well below 1%, according to a 2024 report from the Brookings Institution<\/a>.<\/p>\n
