Ahead of President Donald Trump\u2019s Tuesday night State of the Union address, the Democratic National Committee released an economic scorecard painting the first year of the president\u2019s term as a disaster for average Texans. <\/p>\n

The DNC-supplied data \u2014\u00a0all drawn from the government\u2019s Bureau of Labor Statistics \u2014\u00a0shows Texans are paying higher prices due to White House tariffs, the state\u2019s unemployment rate is up and its manufacturing jobs are dwindling. Meanwhile, millions of Texans are poised to lose food assistance and health coverage. <\/p>\n

As Trump prepares to address the nation, roughly 60% of Americans disapprove of his performance, according to a new\u00a0Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll<\/a>. The survey shows majorities sour on the president\u2019s handling of key talking points in his own reelection campaign, from inflation to immigration.<\/p>\n

A total of 58% of those polled said they disapprove of Trump\u2019s handling of immigration, while 57% said they reject his management of the economy. What\u2019s more, 65% said they disapprove of the president\u2019s efforts on inflation and 64% on his use of tariffs.<\/p>\n

In an emailed statement, DNC Chairman Ken Martin blamed Trump\u2019s dismal polling on an agenda that\u2019s put the ultra-wealthy first and Texans last.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs Donald Trump prepares to take the stage tonight, there\u2019s a reason he is the least popular president in modern American history at this point in his term,\u201d Martin said. \u201cStaring down the threat of a Trump Recession, Trump has spent his first year wining and dining CEOs and billionaires while costs continue to skyrocket, jobs are being lost at a historic rate and health care has become unaffordable and inaccessible for millions of Americans.\u201d <\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a rundown of the DNC-supplied data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics: <\/p>\n

Costs<\/p>\n

Working Texans have lost $339<\/a> from paying higher costs due to inflation.<\/p>\n

Working families lost $1,060<\/a> last year from the Republicans\u2019 One Big Beautiful Bill and Trump\u2019s tariffs.<\/p>\n

Health Care and Food Assistance<\/p>\n

Trump and Republicans declined to extend ACA tax credits, which 3,713,574<\/a> Texans relied on last year.<\/p>\n

Republicans\u2019 failure to extend enhanced ACA tax credits is expected to raise premiums for marketplace enrollees by 216%<\/a> in Texas.<\/p>\n

Some 1,400,000<\/a> Texans will lose insurance by 2034 due to the healthcare agenda of Trump and the GOP.<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s SNAP, or food stamp, cuts will cause 1,514,000 <\/a>Texans to lose some or all of their food assistance.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Unemployment<\/p>\n

Since Trump reentered office, Texas\u2019 unemployment rate has increased by 0.2%<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Texas has lost 3,900<\/a> manufacturing jobs since Trump took office.<\/p>\n

\u201cWorst of all, Trump promised to lower costs for Texas families on Day One, but he\u2019s done the exact opposite,\u201d Martin said. \u201cFamilies are worse off than they were a year ago, but Democrats are standing up to fight for them. As Trump has his fun with gilded ballrooms and Great Gatsby parties while ignoring everybody else, Texas families know Democrats will keep fighting on their behalf every day to lower costs and improve lives.\u201d<\/p>\n
