{"id":178260,"date":"2026-02-24T17:19:06","date_gmt":"2026-02-24T17:19:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/178260\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T17:19:06","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T17:19:06","slug":"waymo-launches-expansion-into-several-texas-cities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/178260\/","title":{"rendered":"Waymo launches expansion into several Texas cities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TEXAS \u2014 Waymo will expand its operations into Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and Orlando, the company announced in a <a href=\"https:\/\/waymo.com\/blog\/2026\/02\/dallas-houston-san-antonio-orlando\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">news release<\/a> on Tuesday. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Rides will be selectively offered to users in these cities who have downloaded the Waymo app. New users will be invited to use Waymo\u2019s services on a rolling basis, to make the transition into these cities more successful, the company said.<\/p>\n<p>The service is expected to be available for everyone in these cities by the end of the year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDallas is excited for Waymo to launch operations in our city, providing Dallas residents and visitors with new, innovative transportation options,\u201d said Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson in a statement. \u201cThe availability of Waymo\u2019s fully autonomous ride service further cements Dallas\u2019s reputation as one of America\u2019s most innovative and dynamic cities. Together, we are putting public safety first while building a more connected city.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Waymo\u2019s expansion comes at a time when approximately 60% of U.S. drivers report being afraid to ride in self-driving cars, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.aaa.com\/2025\/02\/aaa-fear-in-self-driving-vehicles-persists\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">data<\/a> from the American Automobile Association.<\/p>\n<p>The company said in the announcement that it will prioritize safety in order to build trust.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWaymo is serving more riders than ever, as we are on track to serve over one million rides per week by the end of this year,\u201d co-CEO of Waymo, Tekedra Mawakana, said in the release.<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday\u2019s expansion increases the total commercial metropolitan areas Waymo serves to 10.
