{"id":178388,"date":"2026-02-24T18:49:11","date_gmt":"2026-02-24T18:49:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/178388\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T18:49:11","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T18:49:11","slug":"photos-new-england-shovels-out-after-historic-blizzard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/178388\/","title":{"rendered":"Photos: New England shovels out after historic blizzard"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">The region dug out from a whopper of a storm on Tuesday. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wbur.org\/news\/2026\/02\/24\/massachusetts-blizzard-snow-totals-map\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Snow totals<\/a> ranged from around a foot in Greater Boston to three feet in southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Officials said it would take days to clean up the snow and restore power fully.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">It&#8217;s a blizzard that many are saying will be included <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wbur.org\/news\/2025\/02\/06\/boston-blizzard-hurricane-snow-storm\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New England lore<\/a> for a new generation, like the Blizzard of &#8217;78 and the four-week <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wbur.org\/news\/2025\/01\/27\/boston-snow-winter-2015-by-the-numbers-newsletter\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">blast<\/a> of winter storms in 2015.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">After near whiteout conditions most of Monday, the skies were clear and blue on Tuesday as people ventured out to shovel cars and workers fought to clear roads.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Boston saw just under 17 inches of snow, while the South Shore, South Coast and Cape Cod got walloped with snow and hurricane-force winds. (Check out a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wbur.org\/news\/2026\/02\/24\/massachusetts-blizzard-snow-totals-map\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">map of snow totals here<\/a>.) Scituate got 32 inches of snow; Somerset saw 36 inches and Providence eclipsed the Blizzard of &#8217;78 record, racking up more than three feet.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Even during the height of the storm, some people found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wbur.org\/news\/2026\/02\/23\/boston-blizzard-outdoor-activities\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">moments of (freezing) joy<\/a>: setting up a ski jump in Boston Common or cross-country skiing on deserted streets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Now, the big question is: how long until all the snow melts?<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-breakout article-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/0224_feb-noreaster-25-1920x1280.jpg\" alt=\"A frozen bicycle on Charles St. in downtown Boston, waits to be dug out by its owner, Feb. 24, 2026.
