{"id":178737,"date":"2026-02-24T23:16:07","date_gmt":"2026-02-24T23:16:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/178737\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T23:16:07","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T23:16:07","slug":"texas-actor-embracing-new-career-at-age-most-retire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/178737\/","title":{"rendered":"Texas actor embracing new career at age most retire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">TYLER, Texas (KLTV) &#8211; One Texas businessman traded his semi-retired life for a surprising second act in Hollywood working on multiple television shows written by \u201cYellowstone\u201d creator Taylor Sheridan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Actor Larry Wells, a 64-year-old entrepreneur from Coppell, found his way into the entertainment business after being discovered at Tractor Supply, where he appeared in several commercials as an authentic customer before becoming Tractor Supply\u2019s official spokesperson.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI semi-retired about five or six years ago, and being a regular shopper at Tractor Supply and buying things like horse feed there, and welding supplies and that sort of thing, I get a call from an agent one day who said Tractor Supply would like for you to be in a video.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Wells said after filming a commercial, the company then asked him to appear in print advertising for its men\u2019s clothing line, which led to additional voiceover work as Tractor Supply\u2019s official spokesperson.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">His agent then told him to audition for a western in Fort Worth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI reached out and made a few phone calls, and, lo and behold, they offered me to be Sam Elliott\u2019s traveling stand-in,\u201d Wells said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Wells initially rejected the offer, but then he was given an offer he couldn\u2019t refuse: a featured role with Billy Bob Thornton.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cBeing green and new to the game, I was a little overwhelmed to say the least,\u201d Wells admitted. \u201cI had a few of those \u2018aha\u2019 moments where I look around and here I am rubbing elbows with Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw, Billy Bob Thornton, and I\u2019m like, \u2018How did I get here?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Wells appeared in the Paramount+ series \u201c1883\u201d and \u201c1923,\u201d both written by Sheridan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">He is currently filming the East Texas-based film \u201cAnderson County,\u201d a tribute to fallen game wardens, where he plays Samuel Loving, president of the Cattlemen\u2019s Association.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Beyond the big screen, Wells has also appeared in faith-based videos with Palestine-based prison minister Justin Todd Harrod, including \u201cThe Power of a Second Chance,\u201d which won the CMA\u2019s Video of the Year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">With a budding new career, Wells encouraged other senior citizens not to give up on life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI was pretty comfortable, semi-retired, had a successful business and just getting to kick back a little bit,\u201d he said. \u201cBut I\u2019ve learned that kicking back ain\u2019t always good for you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Wells said all of his recent work is a reason to stay healthy and fit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI encourage any of the seniors out there, or people that are just kind of coasting through life to step out of that comfort zone,\u201d he said. \u201cGet out there, and try it.
