{"id":178796,"date":"2026-02-24T23:58:09","date_gmt":"2026-02-24T23:58:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/178796\/"},"modified":"2026-02-24T23:58:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-24T23:58:09","slug":"pantego-restores-permits-for-upac-after-community-backlash-over-revocation-amid-ongoing-shooting-investigation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/178796\/","title":{"rendered":"Pantego restores permits for UPAC after community backlash over revocation amid ongoing shooting investigation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Pantego reinstates UPAC&#8217;s permits after community support rallies against initial revocation, allowing the dance studio&#8217;s reopening amid the shooting investigation.<\/p>\n<p>PANTEGO, Texas \u2014 The Town of Pantego reversed its decision Tuesday, reinstating the certificates of occupancy for United Performing Arts Company (UPAC) just hours after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfaa.com\/article\/news\/local\/tarrant-county\/packed-council-meeting-pantego-families-push-back-against-dance-studio-shutdown\/287-6aee2077-00e1-44e5-b924-44bdb466144f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">a standing-room-only crowd packed Pantego Town Hall<\/a> in a show of support for the longtime dance studio.<\/p>\n<p>The city had revoked the studio\u2019s occupancy permits days earlier following <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfaa.com\/article\/news\/local\/pantego-shuts-down-local-business-after-gun-discharges-there-officials-say\/287-de115428-25b0-4d49-adb0-7176940cdde8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">a Feb. 13 shooting that occurred outside the business<\/a> after a private, late-night event. Neighbors said the shooting happened after that event.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Pantego police have released few details about the incident and have not said whether anyone was injured.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo\/?fbid=1514352750697719&amp;set=a.489541309845540\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">In a letter dated Feb. 24<\/a>, city officials notified the property owner and tenant that the revocation of the certificates of occupancy for 2014 and 2018 Roosevelt Drive had been rescinded in full. The letter states the referenced certificates \u201care reinstated,\u201d and includes an apology for the inconvenience. City officials also noted that criminal investigations related to the Feb. 13 incident are ongoing and thanked the parties for their cooperation.<\/p>\n<p>The decision clears the way for UPAC to resume operations at its regular location.<\/p>\n<p>The studio confirmed the development in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo\/?fbid=1514352750697719&amp;set=a.489541309845540\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">social media post<\/a>, telling families, \u201cWelcome back, UPAC! We will see everyone tonight at our regular location!\u201d The post thanked the community for \u201coverwhelming support, love, and passion for the arts,\u201d adding, \u201cLet\u2019s get back to doing what we love!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Before the reversal, several residents had questioned the city\u2019s initial decision, arguing it created uncertainty for small businesses. UPAC owner Angie Meister hired an attorney to challenge the action. Her attorney, William King, sent a letter to city leaders asking them to \u201creverse that wrongful decision,\u201d citing concerns about a lack of evidence and due process.<\/p>\n<p>Meister made an emotional plea during the meeting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHelp us get back to work.
