ARLINGTON, Texas\u00a0\u2013 UT Arlington fell to Dallas Baptist, 6\u20131, Tuesday night at Clay Gould Ballpark, as a three-run first inning and a three-run eighth proved decisive in a steady midweek contest.<\/p>\n
DBU struck early with three runs on three hits in the opening frame, capitalizing on two walks and a Maverick error to take control. UTA finished with eight hits\u00a0and drew six walks, but stranded 12 runners\u00a0and went\u00a00-for-9 with runners in scoring position, limiting its ability to close the gap. Jackson Hill<\/a> led the way offensively, going 2-for-4 with a double, while Xander McAfee<\/a> added\u00a0two hits. \n\tDanny Valadez<\/a> helped settle the game with 1.2 scoreless innings, and Landon Murphy<\/a> turned in 2.0 shutout frames with two strikeouts\u00a0to keep UTA within striking distance. Merek Sears<\/a> and Nick Perry<\/a> each added a scoreless inning in relief.
\n\tJacob Gabler<\/a> worked 0.2 innings\u00a0in the eighth and\u00a0did not allow an earned run, with the late damage aided by defensive errors. Hayes Melville<\/a> closed the inning with 1.1 scoreless innings.
\n\tAs a staff, the Mavericks limited DBU to\u00a05-for-16 with runners in scoring position\u00a0and struck out five.
