{"id":179386,"date":"2026-02-25T08:29:11","date_gmt":"2026-02-25T08:29:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/179386\/"},"modified":"2026-02-25T08:29:11","modified_gmt":"2026-02-25T08:29:11","slug":"terry-blacks-barbecue-owners-opening-bathhouse-spa-near-pearl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/179386\/","title":{"rendered":"Terry Black\u2019s Barbecue owners opening bathhouse, spa near Pearl"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The family behind a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/guide.michelin.com\/us\/en\/texas\/austin_2958315\/restaurant\/terry-black-s-bbq\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Michelin-recommended<\/a> Texas barbecue chain is turning up the heat for its new San Antonio development.<\/p>\n<p>Black Family Hospitality, which owns Austin-based\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/terryblacksbbq.com\/\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Terry Black\u2019s\u00a0Barbecue<\/a>, is building an underground bathhouse and spa, in addition to a new hotel and barbecue joint at 2101 Broadway near Pearl.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The 9,800-square-foot bathhouse will feature hot spas, cold spas, cold plunges, a large linear spa and a salt float, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tdlr.texas.gov\/TABS\/Search\/Project\/TABS2026012456\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a filing<\/a> with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. It also will include a steam room, cold mist room, massage rooms and a locker room with additional spa amenities. The $8.4 million construction project is expected to be completed by June 2028.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been traveling all over, and we\u2019ve come to really enjoy the bathhouse experience in Europe and Iceland,\u201d said Mark Black, who runs the business with his siblings, Christina and Michael. \u201cThis will be a kind of self-guided spa experience that\u2019s more approachable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In September 2024, the Historic and Design Review Commission <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expressnews.com\/business\/real-estate\/article\/terry-black-bbq-pearl-broadway-river-authority-19771370.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">approved the family\u2019s plans<\/a> for a restaurant, dining courtyard and pit house in front of the Alamo Colleges District\u2019s headquarters. They also are developing a hotel with two new restaurants unrelated to Terry Black\u2019s. The family bought the 1.4-acre property, which is mostly vacant, through a limited liability company in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>After finding success in the restaurant industry, the family wants to lean into more hospitality projects. Terry Black\u2019s also has restaurants in\u00a0Dallas, Fort Worth and Waco, and upcoming barbecue joints <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expressnews.com\/business\/article\/terry-blacks-barbecue-new-braunfels-opening-21217428.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">in New Braunfels<\/a> and Houston.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Roman-inspired bathhouse will be situated 20 feet below the hotel\u00a0and will be accessible to both hotel guests and the general public.
