{"id":180345,"date":"2026-02-25T23:53:17","date_gmt":"2026-02-25T23:53:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/180345\/"},"modified":"2026-02-25T23:53:17","modified_gmt":"2026-02-25T23:53:17","slug":"allen-to-invest-4-87m-in-street-and-alley-rehabilitation-in-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/180345\/","title":{"rendered":"Allen to invest $4.87M in street and alley rehabilitation in 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSeveral <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityofallen.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Allen<\/a> streets and alleyways are slated to receive improvements this year.<\/p>\n<p>Allen City Council approved a $4.87 million contract with Jim Bowman Construction for its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityofallen.org\/government\/city_meeting_agendas_minutes.php\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2026 Street and Alley Rehabilitation project<\/a> at a Feb. 24 <a href=\"https:\/\/actv.org\/internetchannel\/show\/4286?site=1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">meeting<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The details<\/p>\n<p>Included in the citywide project for this fiscal year is approximately 4,138 square yards of alley pavement repair and over 27,000 square yards of roadway pavement repair, according to city documents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s more than just a sizable construction contract award,\u201d Director of Engineering Chris Flanigan said. \u201cIt represents what I would characterize as responsible and measured investment in our most expensive asset in the community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;&gt;<\/p>\n<p>How we got here<\/p>\n<p>For the past several fiscal years, Allen has invested millions in street and alley improvements, according to city documents.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/1772063596_78_thumbnail.jpeg\" width=\"100%\" alt=\"visualization\"\/>In late 2022, city staff used federal funding to hire a contractor to drive over 600 miles of Allen roadways to develop a surface condition assessment, and objectively score and rank pavement throughout the community, Flanigan said.<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/1772063597_823_thumbnail.jpeg\" width=\"100%\" alt=\"visualization\"\/>The engineering team has a database and mapping system that keeps track of <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/dallas-fort-worth\/allen\/transportation\/2026\/02\/12\/learn-how-allen-assesses-pavement-for-annual-roadway-improvements\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">roads being considered for improvement<\/a>. Those projects are presented annually to Allen City Council as part of the city\u2019s streets and alleys repair contract.<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s next<\/p>\n<p>Construction on the project is expected to begin in March and wrap up in February 2027, Flanigan said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Several Allen streets and alleyways are slated to receive improvements this year.
