BAYTOWN, Texas \u2013 A new state charge was filed in the Houston-area\u2019s first federal AI child exploitation case.<\/p>\n
Kane James Kellum, 34, of Nacogdoches is accused of using artificial intelligence to generate images of child pornography of minors that he knew. <\/p>\n
Kellum was arrested by Baytown police in November of 2025 and charged with possession of child pornography, also known as child sex abuse material (CSAM). <\/p>\n
The case was handed over to the FBI, leading to federal prosecution and grand jury indictments on four counts related to CSAM. <\/p>\n
On Wednesday, Baytown police said they uncovered \u201cadditional criminal conduct\u201d that has led to Kellum facing a new charge filed with the state: Super Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child. <\/p>\n
Baytown police say digital forensics played a key factor. Investigators say they were able to identify the origin, manipulation and storage of the illicit material.<\/p>\n
\u201cCrimes against children are among the most disturbing and serious offenses we investigate. This case demonstrates our department\u2019s commitment to protecting the most vulnerable members of our community,\u201d said Baytown Police Chief John Stringer. <\/p>\n
\u201cAs technology evolves, so do the tactics of those who seek to exploit it. We will continue to adapt, work alongside our federal partners, and utilize every available resource, including advanced digital forensics, to ensure offenders are held accountable.\u201d<\/p>\n
