AUSTIN, Texas \u2014 Austin ISD is continuing to develop and implement their targeted and local improvement plans for over two dozen schools. The district’s board of trustees will hold a public hearing before tonight’s trustees meeting. The district is encouraging parents, staff and the community to attend and share their feedback on the plans.<\/p>\n
District officials say twelve campuses require a targeted improvement plan. These campuses received a first unacceptable overall “D” or “F” rating from the Texas Education Agency. This requires the district by state law to develop and submit a plan to the TEA. Another 16 campuses need a local improvement plan. These campuses received a first or second overall “D” rating following an acceptable rating from the TEA. They are required by the TEA to develop plans, but these plans don’t need to be submitted to the agency.<\/p>\n
According to district documents, the plans prioritize facility improvements and academic strategies. For elementary schools, this includes after school enrichment, a literacy first approach and professional development for teachers and staff. At middle schools, this includes campus mentoring, monthly learning labs and comprehensive assessments to monitor student progress.<\/p>\n
