HOUSTON \u2013 The sister of a man found in a Houston bayou in May is pleading for answers.<\/p>\n
The body of 35-year-old Anthony Curry was found on May 17 at 7:42 a.m. in the Meyerland area.<\/p>\n
Curry\u2019s sister Alexis Curry describes her brother as her \u201csuperhero\u201d and said she doesn\u2019t know how he could have ended up in Houston\u2019s waterways.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat ain\u2019t my brother,\u201d said Alexis. \u201cHe\u2019ll go somewhere and chill off before he just go jump in some water.”<\/p>\n
KPRC 2 has learned at least 23 bodies have been found in the Bayou so far this year. Many causes of death remain pending, but Curry\u2019s death was ruled an accidental drowning with PCP and ethanol found in his system.<\/p>\n
\u201cI really want to know what happened,\u201d said Alexis.<\/p>\n
Alexis said her brother was a barber and also worked in construction. She said he was living with his girlfriend about five minutes away from where his body was found and he had a 6-year-old son.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe is my big brother, and he would\u2019ve done anything for anybody,\u201d said Alexis. \u201cFor him to be found like that, it hurts. It hurts.”<\/p>\n
At a September community briefing, Council Members Letitia Plummer and Carolyn Evans-Shabazz emphasized that police and city officials have found no evidence linking the cases and no indication of a serial killer. They cautioned against assumptions while investigations and autopsies are ongoing.<\/p>\n
\u201cMany victims may be from vulnerable populations, including the unhoused,\u201d said Plummer.<\/p>\n
Alexis said her brother was not homeless.<\/p>\n
She said the last time she heard from HPD investigators was in July and that the family still hasn\u2019t received a clear timeline.<\/p>\n
The last time she heard from her brother was a few days before he was found. The family was told he was found wearing just his shorts.<\/p>\n
City leaders said fear spread quickly on social media after a recent series of recoveries.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a whole lot to be alarmed about the lack of transparency,” said South Park Super Neighborhood President Travis McGee, in last month\u2019s press conference. \u201cWe want everything to be properly investigated here in the city of Houston.”<\/p>\n
Officials reiterated long-standing safety guidance:<\/p>\n
Avoid isolated underpasses after dark; travel in pairs when possible.<\/p>\n
Share your location with someone you trust; check in regularly.<\/p>\n
If a loved one\u2019s silence is abnormal, request a wellness check.<\/p>\n
Homeowners and businesses near greenways: review camera footage when recoveries are reported and share anything relevant with HPD.<\/p>\n
