Do you remember the first time you fell in love with musicals? I certainly do.\u00a0<\/p>\n
It was 2007. My family was walking through Red Bird Mall, now the Shops at RedBird, in south Dallas when I saw a poster for the film adaptation of \u201cHairspray.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
I saw the movie in theaters shortly after and it changed my life forever with its storyline and dynamic songs. It\u2019s still one of my favorite musicals of all time. I\u2019m actually listening to Queen Latifah\u2019s \u201cI Know Where I\u2019ve Been\u201d as I write this.\u00a0<\/p>\n
If \u201cHairspray\u201d has a special place in your heart as well, then head over to Casa Ma\u00f1ana this weekend when the Tony Award-winning musical electrifies the theater\u2019s stage with its beat.\u00a0 Greet \u2018The Nicest Kids in Town\u2019 at Broadway show<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n Set in 1962, the musical follows Tracy Turnblad as she chases her dream of dancing on The Corny Collins Show and advocates for racial integration on the program. RuPaul\u2019s Drag Race contestant Nina West plays Edna Turnblad. Arts advocates can hear about the evolution of the local film industry and how art shapes public spaces. The nonprofit\u2019s executive director Wesley Gentle will also share an update on the state of the arts.<\/p>\n What: ARTSForward – Art Summit 2026<\/p>\n When: 9 a.m. Feb. 28<\/p>\n Where: Texas Wesleyan University, 3165 E. Rosedale St., Fort Worth<\/p>\n Admission: $25-$125<\/a><\/p>\n Put your paws up for Mother Monster\u2019s electrifying shows<\/a><\/p>\n Lady Gaga is hitting the Dickies stage for two days in a row.
