The Houston Independent School District is set to vote tonight on whether to close or consolidate 12 schools across the district.<\/p>\n

The vote is scheduled for 5 p.m. during the HISD Board of Managers meeting held at the HISD Board Auditorium, 4400 West 18th Street.<\/p>\n

District leaders say the proposed closures are part of a broader effort to address declining enrollment, budget challenges and underused campuses. Several elementary and middle schools could be consolidated, with students reassigned to nearby campuses.<\/p>\n

Under the proposal:<\/p>\n

\u2022 N.Q. Henderson Elementary students would move to Bruce Elementary<\/p>\n

\u2022 Port Houston Elementary students would also move to Bruce Elementary<\/p>\n

\u2022 Fleming Middle School students would relocate to Mickey Leland College Preparatory Academy<\/p>\n

\u2022 Rose Elementary students could move to Roosevelt Elementary or C. Martinez Elementary<\/p>\n

\u2022 Burrus Elementary students would transition to Kennedy Elementary<\/p>\n

\u2022 Franklin Elementary students would move to Gallegos Elementary<\/p>\n

\u2022 Alcott Elementary students would attend Mading Elementary<\/p>\n

\u2022 Hobby Elementary students would relocate to Lawton Middle School<\/p>\n

\u2022 Cage Elementary students would move to Lantrip Elementary<\/p>\n

\u2022 Briscoe Elementary students would transition to Carrillo Elementary<\/p>\n

\u2022 Gulfton Middle College would relocate to a nearby campus<\/p>\n

HISD officials have said most of the receiving campuses are located within a few miles of the schools slated for closure.<\/p>\n

Still, many parents and community members have voiced concerns about transportation, class sizes, staff reassignment, and how the changes could affect specialized programs and school culture.<\/p>\n
