After being forced to close earlier this year due to financial struggles and after asking the community to donate to the effort to keep the nightclub open, the owners of the Oak Lawn nightclub CRUSH announced today (Thursday, Oct. 23) that the bar is re-opening. The announcement did not give a specific re-opening date for the bar, located at 2914 Oak Lawn Ave., between Dickason and Gillespie.<\/p>\n
In a statement posted to their social media, the owners said:<\/p>\n
Dear Dallas Community,
We are beyond excited to share that CRUSH is officially reopening!
Your love and support over the oast year kept us going through uncertain times. Every donation, message and share gave us strength and time to find the right partner to help bring CRUSH back. We\u2019re thrilled to say we\u2019ve done just that with a silent investor.
Your outpouring of support proved that CRUSH is loved, needed and here to stay. We can\u2019t wait to celebrate and party with you again soon \u2014 stay tuned for our re-opening celebration.\u201d<\/p>\n
The statement is signed by owners Andrew and David Perre.<\/p>\n
The couple posted a letter on the bar\u2019s social media pages on Sept. 26 detailing their financial struggles, explaining that the bar has been unable to make its weekly rent due to \u201cmuch-needed repairs and a very slow last 2 months.\u201d<\/p>\n
It continued: \u201cWe\u2019ve just received notice that if we don\u2019t pay the full balance of over $30,000 with an additional $11,440 for rent being due again [by Oct. 1], we could be locked out of our space anytime our landlord feels he wants to, and he\u2019s not required to open it unless we cure our balance.\u201d<\/p>\n
That announcement, coming about a month after CRUSH celebrated its first anniversary, included information on a fundraising effort with a $50,000 goal. And within hours of posting the information, that fundraising effort already brought in some $2,000.<\/p>\n
