{"id":182142,"date":"2026-02-27T00:54:21","date_gmt":"2026-02-27T00:54:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/182142\/"},"modified":"2026-02-27T00:54:21","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T00:54:21","slug":"west-side-of-poor-farm-ditch-project-nears-completion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/182142\/","title":{"rendered":"West side of Poor Farm Ditch project nears completion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe west side of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westutx.gov\/1488\/Poor-Farm-Ditch-Project\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Poor Farm Ditch reconstruction project<\/a> is nearly completed, but the east side will likely not continue until this summer, West University Place officials said.<\/p>\n<p>On Feb. 23, Public Works Director Michael Leech presented West U City Council and the mayor with before-and-after photos of the nearly-completed section, noting that the contractor is still finalizing a few details.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is updated with new, modern construction, which should last a good, long time,\u201d Leech said.<\/p>\n<p>The update<\/p>\n<p>However, Leech said the east side of the ditch\u2019s progress is going slower.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately, they&#8217;re still doing property research on the eastern side,&#8221; he said. &#8220;So essentially, what they&#8217;re looking at is where the actual property line is.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Leech added that the surveyors have had trouble identifying the exact locations of properties and are still working to identify legal documents for each property.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe timeline for us to know this information was, I believe, this month, but it&#8217;s going to be likely sometime this summer when we\u2019ll have a clearer understanding of what the next steps will be and what the schedule will be,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>What residents should know<\/p>\n<p>Leech said this summer will come with testing and physical surveying of the landscape and properties, which may be invasive for some residents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the things that I think is worth doing, they&#8217;re being really diligent and deliberate about the process of identifying where the properties are,\u201d he said. \u201cThey want to make sure that when they remove the old or the existing structure, they don&#8217;t detrimentally impact the homes and structures that are there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What\u2019s next<\/p>\n<p>When construction does occur, Leech said the testing and surveying are to ensure there are <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/houston\/bellaire-meyerland-west-university\/government\/2026\/02\/10\/poor-farm-ditch-flood-project-to-be-constructed-in-500-foot-segments-to-minimize-impact-to-residents\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">no adverse impacts on the adjacent properties<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;&gt;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The west side of the Poor Farm Ditch reconstruction project is nearly completed, but the east side will&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":182143,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[7],"tags":[1604,56,58,57,39978,28647,39287,68443,10105],"class_list":{"0":"post-182142","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-houston","8":"tag-community-impact","9":"tag-houston","10":"tag-houston-headlines","11":"tag-houston-news","12":"tag-poor-farm-ditch","13":"tag-public-works","14":"tag-west-u","15":"tag-west-u-public-works","16":"tag-west-university-place"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/182142","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=182142"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/182142\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/182143"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=182142"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=182142"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=182142"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
