Here are the highlights"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/organization\/36b84169-78ae-c661-0f8a-cf2f506e8434\/dallas-symphony-orchestra\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/organization\/36b84169-78ae-c661-0f8a-cf2f506e8434\/dallas-symphony-orchestra\/\">Dallas Symphony Orchestra<\/a>\u2019s 2026-27 season will include concert performances of Mozart\u2019s Don Giovanni, with Ildebrando D\u2019Arcangelo in the title role, and Bach\u2019s St. John Passion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Both works will be conducted by music director <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/arts-entertainment\/performing-arts\/2025\/02\/28\/the-wizard-of-smell-dallas-symphony-orchestra-conductor-fabio-luisi\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/arts-entertainment\/performing-arts\/2025\/02\/28\/the-wizard-of-smell-dallas-symphony-orchestra-conductor-fabio-luisi\/\">Fabio Luisi<\/a>, who\u2019ll  lead eight other programs in the Classical Series of 20.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">There will be some reshuffling of performance days, with the Thursday night series reduced to eight programs, versus this season\u2019s 12. Returning to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/arts-entertainment\/performing-arts\/2025\/08\/06\/morton-meyersons-pivotal-role-in-bringing-world-class-symphony-center-to-dallas\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/arts-entertainment\/performing-arts\/2025\/08\/06\/morton-meyersons-pivotal-role-in-bringing-world-class-symphony-center-to-dallas\/\">Meyerson Symphony Center<\/a> podium will be St\u00e9phane Den\u00e8ve, Kevin John Edusei, Matthew Halls, Jaime Mart\u00edn and Matthias Pintscher.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/arts-entertainment\/performing-arts\/2025\/06\/07\/aristo-sham-of-hong-kong-wins-the-2025-van-cliburn-piano-competition\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/arts-entertainment\/performing-arts\/2025\/06\/07\/aristo-sham-of-hong-kong-wins-the-2025-van-cliburn-piano-competition\/\">Aristo Sham<\/a>, gold medalist of the 2025 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, will make his DSO debut, performing the Prokofiev Second Concerto. Other soloists will include cellist Yo-Yo Ma; pianists Daniil Trifonov, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Lise de la Salle and C\u00e9dric Tiberghien; and violinists Karen Gomyo and Randall Goosby.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">DSO principals Daniel Hawkins (horn), David Buck (flute), Emily Levin (harp), and Alexander Kerr (violin) also will be featured.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Pianist Lang Lang will present a solo recital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">The schedule includes two world premieres: a triple concerto by Iranian composer Golfam Khayam (with star violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter, violist and cellist ) and, featuring cellist Tommy Mesa, a cello concerto by American Michael Abels.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Other recent works will include the Concierto mistico y profano by Mexican composer Arturo M\u00e1rquez (featuring guitarist Pablo S\u00e1inz Villegas), a violin concerto by Canadian Samy Moussa (with Gomyo as soloist) and Contact, a triple concerto by American Kevin Puts (to be performed by the trio Time for Three).<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">There\u2019s a fair cross-section of standard orchestral repertory, including a Mahler First Symphony to be conducted by Luisi. Representation of mainstream 20th-century American music is limited to Gershwin\u2019s American in Paris, Dance Episodes from Bernstein\u2019s On the Town and Alan Hovhaness\u2019  Mysterious Mountain. More off-the-beaten-path works include the Scriabin Piano Concerto, the Suite No. 2 from Albert Roussel\u2019s Bacchus et Ariane and Darius Milhaud\u2019s La cr\u00e9ation du monde. And the Dallas Symphony Chorus will be heard in Brahms\u2019 gorgeous but rarely performed Schicksalslied.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Once again, the Meyerson\u2019s big Fisk organ will get minimal use in the symphonic repertory, although resident organist Bradley Hunter Welch will perform in the Saint-Sa\u00ebns Third Symphony. Solo organ recitals will be performed by Anna Lapwood, who\u2019s become an international social media sensation, and Ra\u00fal Prieto Ram\u00edrez.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">As usual, there will be numerous concerts around the Christmas holiday, plus a New Year\u2019s Eve concert.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">The gala concert will be a pops program, with vocalist Idina Menzel. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/arts-entertainment\/performing-arts\/2024\/04\/11\/principal-conductor-of-dallas-symphony-presents-tasked-with-finding-new-offerings\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/arts-entertainment\/performing-arts\/2024\/04\/11\/principal-conductor-of-dallas-symphony-presents-tasked-with-finding-new-offerings\/\">Enrico Lopez-Ya\u00f1ez<\/a>, principal conductor of Dallas Symphony Presents, will be on the podium, as well as for pops concerts featuring music of Elvis Presley (with Frankie Moreno and his band), music of pop queens of the \u201990s and \u201900s and vocalist Mandy Gonzalez singing Lin-Manuel Miranda. Jeff Tyzik, principal pops conductor emeritus, will lead two programs: \u201cRock Legends of the 60s and 70s: Sounds of Laurel Canyon\u201d and \u201cSummer Breeze: Yacht Rock Classics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">The DSO\u2019s movies-in-concert series will include Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Hocus-Pocus, The Muppet Christmas Carol, Up and Barbie.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Season subscriptions are now on sale at 214-849-4376 and <a href=\"https:\/\/dallassymphony.org\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/dallassymphony.org\">dallassymphony.org<\/a>.
