The last meeting between the two sides at Shell Energy Stadium came in April last season, when Houston earned a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstondynamofc.com\/news\/houston-dynamo-fc-defeat-lafc-1-0-at-shell-energy-stadium\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">1-0 victory<\/a>behind U.S. Men\u2019s National Team (USMNT) midfielder\u00a0Jack\u00a0McGlynn\u2019s\u00a0first\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mls.imagencloud.com\/record\/~bae57931bb\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dynamo goal<\/a>. His performance earned him\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstondynamofc.com\/news\/griffin-dorsey-and-jack-mcglynn-named-to-mlssoccer-com-team-of-the-matchday\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">MLSSoccer.com Team of the Matchday honors<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>LAFC\u2019s roster features South Korean National Team captain Son Heung-Min, French World Cup winning goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and former MLS Golden Boot winner Denis Bouanga. Bouanga and Lloris return to Shell Energy Stadium this Saturday, while Son is set to make his first appearance at the venue and against Houston after joining LAFC in August 2025. The forward made an immediate impact last season, recording nine goals and three assists in 10 regular season matches.<\/p>\n<p>Houston enters this weekend with momentum following a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstondynamofc.com\/news\/houston-dynamo-fc-launch-2026-mls-campaign-with-2-1-home-victory-over-chicago-fire-fc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2-1 season-opening home victory<\/a>\u00a0over Eastern Conference opponent Chicago Fire FC. Brazilian attacker\u00a0Guilherme\u00a0managed a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mls.imagencloud.com\/record\/~a182bbd0ae\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">second-half brace<\/a>\u00a0in his MLS debut, improving Houston\u2019s all-time MLS home opener record to 11-2-8 (WLD). His stunting performance also earned him\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstondynamofc.com\/news\/attacker-guilherme-named-to-mlssoccer-com-team-of-the-matchday-after-a-debut-brace\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">MLSSoccer.com Team of the Matchday<\/a>\u00a0honors\u00a0and made him the third player in Dynamo history to score multiple goals in his debut and the first since 2020. The two previous players to achieve that feat were\u00a0Brian\u00a0Ching\u00a0in Houston\u2019s first-ever MLS match versus Colorado on April 2, 2006 (four goals) and\u00a0Ariel\u00a0Lassiter\u00a0versus Minnesota on Sept. 2, 2020 (two goals).<\/p>\n<p>The match also featured several Dynamo debuts, including attacking midfielder\u00a0Mateusz\u00a0Bogusz, midfielder,\u00a0Agust\u00ednBouzat, defender\u00a0Lucas\u00a0Halter, fullback\u00a0Franco\u00a0Negri\u00a0and forward\u00a0Nick\u00a0Markanich. Notably, Houston revamped their roster with significant signings over this offseason, highlighted by two Designated Players in Bogusz and Guilherme, as well as the return of Mexican legend\u00a0H\u00e9ctor\u00a0Herrera. Additionally,\u00a0Houston\u00a0Dynamo 2\u00a0defender\u00a0Agustin\u00a0Resch\u00a0was named to the bench after\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstondynamofc.com\/news\/houston-dynamo-fc-sign-defender-agustin-resch-to-short-term-loan\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">signing a short-term loan<\/a>\u00a0for the match.<\/p>\n<p>LAFC opened the season with a 3-0 victory over reigning MLS Cup Champions Inter Miami CF in front of 75,673 fans at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Goals from David Mart\u00ednez in the 38th\u00a0minute, Denis Bouanga in the 73rd\u00a0and Nathan Ordaz in second half stoppage time secured the team\u2019s ninth consecutive win in a regular season.<\/p>\n<p>Los Angeles also played midweek in Concacaf Champions Cup action, defeating Real Espa\u00f1a 1-0 at BMO Stadium in the second match of their two-leg, Round One series to win 7-1 on aggregate. Defender Nkosi Tafari scored the game\u2019s only goal in the 64th\u00a0minute, his first for the Black &amp; Gold since joining the club in January 2025. LAFC now moves on to face L.D. Alajuelense of Costa Rica in the next stage of the regional tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Houston has a former LAFC player on their roster in Bogusz, who was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstondynamofc.com\/news\/houston-dynamo-fc-sign-dynamic-polish-international-attacker-mateusz-bogusz-as-a-designated-player\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">signed by the Dynamo<\/a>\u00a0ahead of this season. The Polish international attacker spent two seasons in Los Angeles, including a breakout year in 2024, netting a career-high 20 goals in all competitions and playing a key role clinching the team\u2019s first-ever U.S. Open Cup title.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, the Dynamo announced the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstondynamofc.com\/news\/houston-dynamo-fc-sign-houston-native-midfielder-matthew-arana-as-homegrown-player\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">signing<\/a>\u00a0of Dynamo Academy product and Houston native\u00a0Matthew\u00a0Arana\u00a0to a first team contract as a Homegrown Player. At just 15 years, five months and 24 days of age, the midfielder became the youngest first team signing in Club history and the 20th\u00a0Dynamo Academy product to sign a Homegrown first team contract. Additionally,\u00a0Arana\u00a0is the eighth\u00a0Academy player to be\u00a0signed by\u00a0President of Soccer\u00a0Pat\u00a0Onstad\u00a0since he took charge of soccer operations in February 2022.\u00a0Arana was one of seven Academy players called up by head coach Ben Olsen to join the Dynamo for preseason action this year, including helping the team win the inaugural\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstondynamofc.com\/news\/houston-dynamo-fc-win-inaugural-torneo-de-tejas-preseason-tournament\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Torneo de Tejas title<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Houston next travels to face the New England Revolution on Saturday, March 7, or their first road trip of the year, with kickoff scheduled for 1:30 p.m. CT.
