{"id":184057,"date":"2026-02-28T04:44:08","date_gmt":"2026-02-28T04:44:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/184057\/"},"modified":"2026-02-28T04:44:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-28T04:44:08","slug":"mavericks-shine-on-day-one-of-wac-indoor-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/184057\/","title":{"rendered":"Mavericks Shine on Day One of WAC Indoor Championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n                    &#13;<br \/>\n                        Story Links&#13;<br \/>\n                        &#13;<\/p>\n<p>                     SPOKANE, Wash. &#8211;\u00a0The UT Arlington track &amp; field teams opened competition at the WAC Indoor Track &amp; Field Championships in Spokane, Washington, with multiple podium finishes to land the men in third place with 36.5 points and the women in first place with 67 points.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nThe Mavericks wasted no time getting on the podium, as <a href=\"https:\/\/utamavs.com\/sports\/track-and-field\/roster\/eliza-lemberga\/14810\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"14810\" target=\"_blank\">Eliza Lemberga<\/a> captured the first WAC gold medal od the day in the women&#8217;s pentathlon with 3,974 points.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nUTA saw continued success in the field events. In the men&#8217;s pole vault, Freshman <a href=\"https:\/\/utamavs.com\/sports\/track-and-field\/roster\/noah-matthews\/14857\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"14857\" target=\"_blank\">Noah Matthews<\/a> cleared a personal best 4.88m to earn silver, while sophomore <a href=\"https:\/\/utamavs.com\/sports\/track-and-field\/roster\/ethan-saenz\/14789\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"14789\" target=\"_blank\">Ethan Saenz<\/a> followed with a third-place finish at 4.73m.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nIn the men&#8217;s weight throw, <a href=\"https:\/\/utamavs.com\/sports\/track-and-field\/roster\/joey-haws\/14781\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"14781\" target=\"_blank\">Joey Haws<\/a> secured silver with a mark of 18.45m, and <a href=\"https:\/\/utamavs.com\/sports\/track-and-field\/roster\/logan-villalva\/11757\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"11757\" target=\"_blank\">Logan Villalva<\/a> added bronze with a throw of 18.23m.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nOn the women&#8217;s side, Freshman <a href=\"https:\/\/utamavs.com\/sports\/track-and-field\/roster\/arieanna-mcpeak\/14825\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"14825\" target=\"_blank\">Arieanna Mcpeak<\/a> placed second in the women&#8217;s long jump with a mark of 5.83m, finishing as the top freshman in the event. <a href=\"https:\/\/utamavs.com\/sports\/track-and-field\/roster\/sophia-allen\/14770\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"14770\" target=\"_blank\">Sophia Allen<\/a> earned third place in the women&#8217;s pole vault with a mark of 3.65m. Senior <a href=\"https:\/\/utamavs.com\/sports\/track-and-field\/roster\/jaalah-puryear\/14816\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"14816\" target=\"_blank\">Jaalah Puryear<\/a> earned second place (19.04m) and sophomore Esther Adidire landed in third place (17.38m) in the women&#8217;s weight throw.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/utamavs.com\/sports\/track-and-field\/roster\/dorcas-jepkosgei\/14808\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"14808\" target=\"_blank\">Dorcas Jepkosgei<\/a> finished third in the women&#8217;s 5000m race (16:43.28) and to cap off the day, the women&#8217;s quad group of <a href=\"https:\/\/utamavs.com\/sports\/track-and-field\/roster\/zaire-moore\/11743\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"11743\" target=\"_blank\">Zaire Moore<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/utamavs.com\/sports\/track-and-field\/roster\/kayan-green\/14805\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"14805\" target=\"_blank\">Kayan Green<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/utamavs.com\/sports\/track-and-field\/roster\/emilia-mandl\/14812\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"14812\" target=\"_blank\">Emilia Mandl<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/utamavs.com\/sports\/track-and-field\/roster\/linn-adolfsson\/14766\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"14766\" target=\"_blank\">Linn Adolfsson<\/a> took first in the women&#8217;s DMR (11:53.20).<\/p>\n<p>Several Mavericks also punched their tickets to Saturday&#8217;s finals. Jepkosgei qualified for the women&#8217;s mile (4:58.60) Indiya Walton and Moore both advanced in the women&#8217;s 60m hurdles, with Walton posting the second-fastest preliminary time (8.60) and Moore finishing third overall (8.61). <a href=\"https:\/\/utamavs.com\/sports\/track-and-field\/roster\/esther-shaba\/14817\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"14817\" target=\"_blank\">Esther Shaba<\/a> qualified for the women&#8217;s 60m final after clocking a 7.52 for fifth overall, while <a href=\"https:\/\/utamavs.com\/sports\/track-and-field\/roster\/alexis-cain\/11739\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"11739\" target=\"_blank\">Alexis Cain<\/a> advanced to the women&#8217;s 400m final in 54.49.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nIn the 800m, <a href=\"https:\/\/utamavs.com\/sports\/track-and-field\/roster\/leo-legrand\/14786\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"14786\" target=\"_blank\">Leo LeGrand<\/a> (1:55.21) and <a href=\"https:\/\/utamavs.com\/sports\/track-and-field\/roster\/daniel-armstrong\/14767\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"14767\" target=\"_blank\">Daniel Armstrong<\/a> (1:55.43) qualified for the men&#8217;s final. On the women&#8217;s side, <a href=\"https:\/\/utamavs.com\/sports\/track-and-field\/roster\/kayan-green\/14805\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"14805\" target=\"_blank\">Kayan Green<\/a> (2:12.90) and <a href=\"https:\/\/utamavs.com\/sports\/track-and-field\/roster\/emilia-mandl\/14812\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"14812\" target=\"_blank\">Emilia Mandl<\/a> secured spots in the 800m final.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/utamavs.com\/sports\/track-and-field\/roster\/eli-england\/14779\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"14779\" target=\"_blank\">Eli England<\/a> qualified for the men&#8217;s 200m final after clocking in 21.45. In addition to their other qualifying races, Cain and Shaba also qualified for the women&#8217;s 200m final.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nTHOUGHTS FROM COACH<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n&#8220;Today was a really great day. We had so many people qualify for finals tomorrow. We&#8217;re competing against a lot of good talent in Utah Valley and Tarleton State so we&#8217;re gonna fight hard to finish this meet out strong,&#8221; said Coach Sauerhage, &#8220;The women winning the DMR was the icing on the cake for the day.
