CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (KGNS) \u2014 President Donald Trump spoke to a crowd in Corpus Christi<\/a> on Friday, Feb. 27, focusing on energy policy, the economy and the upcoming Republican primary election.<\/p>\n

Trump spoke for about an hour and invited several supporters to join him on stage.<\/p>\n

Webb County judge takes the stage<\/p>\n

Webb County Judge Tano Tijerina was among the South Texas officials called on stage by Trump. Tijerina addressed the Hispanic community, expressing his support for the president and urging voters to support Republican candidates in the primary election. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not just your supporter, but we are the future Mr. President, we\u2019re here to back you up and continue to fight, fight, fight!\u201d Tijerina said.<\/p>\n

Energy and the economy<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s visit<\/a> came days after his State of the Union address<\/a>, where energy was a key topic. In Corpus Christi, he pointed to gas prices in Texas, job-related investment and gains in 401(k) accounts.<\/p>\n

Trump said he chose Corpus Christi because oil acquired from Venezuela will be refined there.<\/p>\n

\u201cAbout 80 million barrels of oil from Venezuela was taken so far. What does that mean? Think of a stadium with 80 thousand people on it,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n

The White House reported the average price for regular gasoline in Texas fell more than $2 a gallon.<\/p>\n

Supporters and protesters turn out<\/p>\n

People began lining up as early as 7 a.m. to attend the speech. Supporter Angela Tamez cited her connection to the military as a reason for her attendance.<\/p>\n

\u201cContrast and compare to the Biden administration when he pulled out of Kabul and left Marines, servicemen stranded, and me being married to a military family that\u2019s the heart of my core,\u201d Tamez said.<\/p>\n

Protester Noel Villarreal also gathered outside the event.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not opposing the president but if you are an innocent person and you care, hold these people accountable for their crimes and actions and what they\u2019ve done to these kids, I went through the files I heard the screams of these babies,\u201d Villarreal said.<\/p>\n

No endorsement in Texas Senate primary<\/p>\n

Trump gave shout-outs to the three Republicans running in the Texas Senate primary during his visit, but did not endorse any candidate.<\/p>\n
